Joyful Hare in the Snow

Hi again!  I'm back to play in two challenges with a winter theme.  It's the perfect opportunity for another Lavinia card.

Today I have a remake of the very first Lavinia card I ever made (not that long ago).  It had some problems so I didn't share it, but I did learn from it.  I'm still learning.  There's nothing perfect about this card but it was, oh, such fun to make!

I used Strathmore vellum surface mixed media paper.  Torn paper masks for the snow, and Stampin' Up inks in Bordering Blue and Not Quite Navy for a monotone scene.  I painted a little snow on the trees with white acrylic paint.  The sky was stenciled and the finished scene was splattered with diluted Aleene's Tacky Glue and then sprinkled with glitter.  It's a little blobby, but very sparkly and magical.  Truth is, there are a few design ideas that came about simply to fix or minimize errors (ahem), but we won't worry about those.

I stamped the leaping hare and added a little shadow under him.  Before I stamped and embossed the white foliage I did use an embossing buddy, but some white powder stuck to the hare in spite of it.  It appears as though the hare is kicking up the powdery snow as he runs.  I like it!

The sentiment is from Power Poppy and really couldn't be more perfect.

With this card I was still working with the first few Lavinia stamps I ordered.  I've since acquired a few more.

Stencil Fun Challenge, January -- Optional theme of winter.
Four Seasons Challenge, January -- Anything goes with a winter theme

I hope to see you again soon.  Lately I seem to have more things to do than you can shake a stick at, but a girl has to have some fun, too.  Take care!

Wow! Is this ever gorgeous! I love all the Lavinia stamps you used and the beautiful snowy scene. The snow on the hare looks like it should be there since he is hopping through the snowy landscape. Yes, we all need some therapy time.

Your scene is so peaceful and vibrant! I LOVE the stencil and bits of glitter, and even the brushed up snow on the hare. This is positively magical and dreamy!

There isn't one single bit of this card that isn't perfection from where I'm sitting, Leslie! From the wonderful masking, sparkly snow - even the snow your hare kicked up on himself is fabulous!
Loving the monochromatic colors and that magical stenciled sky! WOW!

Wow so much in this scene I love, the colour the snowy glittery effect and OMG your fluffy snow round the hare is perfect. I wish we could do things like that on purpose.
Now I have more Lavinia stamps on my list. I have one of the trees now I want the other. I love the long length of the tree trunks :)

You have perfectly captured the wintry scene here in Northern Utah. It looks so real and magical. The bunny and the sentiment take me to another world and the thought of driving in the snow doesn't seem so bad after all. I love the results of your creativity. Absolutely beautiful card!

Conniecrafter said...

that is just fabulous, I love the stenciled background, like the paint for the snow and like you said it does look like snow was kicked up when the bunny was hopping. I like the shadow you gave to it also, great touch and one I wouldn't have thought to do!

OMG! I have learned a few tips just from reading your post! LOL This is AMAZING! Your mounds of snow are awesome and what a great idea to stencil the background sky. Now, I would have never thought to add a shadow under the leaping bunny (see told you I learned a few things lol). Absolutely BEAUTIFUL winter scene! YOU GO GIRL!!!
Thanks so much for joining in the fun at our Four Seasons Challenge! Good Luck and we hope you’ll come back again soon.

SIGHHHHHHH, Leslie, how incredibly peaceful and serene. Your sentiment says it all - I love those moments of "rejoicing in quiet" - not the ecstatic, jumping up and down rejoicing, but that deep-seated, profoundly heartfelt, quiet rejoicing in being at one with nature, and at the peace with what Nature has to offer us, if only we take the time to appreciate her "small yet magnificent" beauties. Your incorporation of swirling stencils, and highlighted whiteness, brings out the cold side of things, while also revealing that pristine snowy feel we long for. Beautiful, Leslie - and thanks again for the close ups. I really enjoy seeing how you do all the little things that make your cards lovely.
