Magnus and the Harvest Moon

Hi!  I have another Lavinia card today.  Still experimenting with inks and the few stamps I have.  For this card I wanted a non-snowy scene and a giant harvest moon.  It could be a sun, I suppose, but I keep seeing it as a moon.  The nice thing about the Lavinia genre is that you can feel free to stretch the imagination.  And, ohhhhh, the colors!  I could just keep on and on with these.

I've listed all the inks and stamps below.  I added a border with a fine tip black marker, plus a Memory Box grass corner die cut.  The sentiment/quote is from Power Poppy.  I should have cut some smooth masks for the landscape as these torn paper masks were intended for snow, but I do still like the look of it.

One interesting note is that I used a lightweight semi-gloss white cardboard for the image panel.  It's the backing piece from a 12x12 pack of Stampin' Up designer paper.  Is it still packaged the same?  I saved all the cardboard backs that came in the collections I purchased.  Just thought I'd try it.  The ink went on very smoothly and the richness of the color kind of blows me away.  I'll try different paper next time.  I'm eager to play with my Lavinia stamps again.

I'll be sharing my card in Darnell's NBUS Challenge #46 as this is the first time I've used Magnus.  Rich tells me Magnus is an Irish Red Deer.  After Googling I would have to concur.

I hope you're all enjoying the new year.  I make no resolutions but there are a few absolute necessities on my agenda as well as all the usual good intentions.  Take care till we meet again!

Stamps:  Lavinia Magnus LAV638, Small Fairy Fir Tree LAV489, Spanish Moss Foliage LAV505, Power Poppy Pure Prairie Spirit sentiment  Paper:  Semi-gloss lightweight white cardboard, Cougar vanilla for card base  Ink:  Memento Tuxedo Black, Stampin' Up Summer Sun, Pumpkin Pie, Perfect Plum, Kiwi Kiss, Old Olive, Always Artichoke  Other:  Fine tip black marker for border, Memory Box Tall Grassy Stems Right Corner

You've blown your mind and exploded mine, Leslie! The scene, the Magnus, the vines, the trees, the torn landscape are all magnificent, but it's the brilliant colors that just take my breath away! And the border is awesome, too. It gives it a frame so all it needs is a wall!! Thank you for inspiring everyone at NBUS! Happy New Year! Hugs, Darnell

Have you considered submitting your cards to the Lavinia challenge in the UK? Leslie, your artwork is sublime! Loving your choices of colors and the richness of the scene. It looks like sunrise to me LOL with that frame, the grass, and that wonderful sentiment, I feel as though I'm wearing warm hiking clothing in the cool morning mist of the woods up in Canada! Pure loveliness! hugs, de

I find such comfort staring at this wonderful creation of yours, Leslie! While being a peaceful scene, it shows strength and courage. Your work with these stamps is amazing! I love the moon, you got such depth of color, and to me the torn edge masks are perfect. I love how you captured the essence of the sentiment in this delightful design. Oh Leslie, this is absolutely stunning, it is all in the background and those beautiful blended colours. Perhaps that semi-gloss paper helped too. I have recently been playing with ink on glossy paper and really love the effect. The colours are so vibrant. Everything about this card is perfect, well done xx

THIS, THIS, is so beautiful its beyond stunning. THe richness of the colors is amazing and the image and outlines and your die cut just bring it all together. On a side note...DOX inks on photo paper, spritzed and then wiped off will also give you that intense fabulous color glow.

Oh, my, but what a gorgeous background for this stately deer, Leslie! The colors are so vivid and well blended. I think I have some of that backing cardboard stashed away. I need to pull it out and try ink blending on it. You have inspired me, my friend!

OMG those colours are amazing, so warm and rich. Lavinia stamps are awesome for creating scenes aren't they.
I think the semi gloss card may have been a coated card which is perfect for brayering. I love using it for a wonderfully smooth coating of ink.

Your Magnus is magnificent!! I'm loving the colors, too, Leslie - spectacular choices! I concur with the moon - and keep that torn edged mask as it looks like the colors are reflecting off of snow!
Note to self: save those cardboard backers!
