Whimsical Houses for Three Occasions

Greetings friends!  I haven't had this much fun playing house in a long time!

In June I bought the entire Whimsical Village Collection by Vicki Papaioannou for Spellbinders.  They went straight to my use-next basket and here we are at the end of August and I'm just now getting around to them.  I LOVE them!  For each card I brought in a little something extra from the toy box.  See under each picture for noteworthy mentions.

I had way too much fun playing with this collection and getting three more cards done for the upcoming busy cardmaking season.  I meant for the first card to be for Thanksgiving, but as soon as I glued down the sunflowers I realized they would not be in bloom in late November.  Oh, well, a fall card is good, too!

Magical Fuchsia

Greetings, friends!  How about wrapping up the week with some fuchsias?  Spellbinders Layered Magical Fuchsia embossing folder and stencil to be exact.  After my first attempt at stenciling was a big flop, I decided to simply emboss and then color with Copics.  It's brighter than I had intended, but still pretty.

I added a retired Power Poppy sentiment and a few clear gems, and brushed the arched panel with SU Soft Sky and Certainly Celery.

Pictured below is the only halfway usable picture I managed of Stenciling Attempt #2.  I followed my friend Pam's lead for the second card.  I embossed first, then stenciled, but still didn't like it so I brushed over the image with brown ink -- SU Creamy Caramel.  Not the same ink Pam used, and I went a lot darker because I was rather liking it.  Later I had to remove some of the ink from around the fuchsias by splattering water, then brushing with water and pressing with a paper towel.

I inset the gold sentiment and splattered the image panel with gold paint.  We'll call it vintage.  The cover panel is SU Blackberry Bliss.  I love that color, but have barely touched it.  I'm thinking I should use it more often.

Red Daisies on Black for The Color Hues Challenge

Hi there!  I didn't feel right about putting the daisies away without using them in the manner that first attracted me, so here they are, filling up the card and popping in red and white on black.  This one's for The Color Hues Challenge.

I added a favorite sentiment and a pretty little butterfly.  It's different, but I think I like it.

Not much talk today.  You probably don't mind, do you?  Sophie is laying in my craft room doorway making sad, neglected puppy noises which means it's past time for our walk.

Birthday Wishes

Hello again!  Wrapping up the week with a second-time use of these Spellbinders flowers.  They're so easy I could go on and on with them, and maybe I will when my not-yet-used baskets are empty.  In my dreams, right? 

The embossing folder, circle dies, and sentiment are all Spellbinders, too.  For the yellow embossed panel I used a double sided sticky sheet to adhere thin vellum to SU's Barely Banana cardstock.  The reason I ever started doing this with the vellum and sticky sheets in the first place is because I have a whole pack of vellum that's way too thin, and I have a whole pack of sticky sheets that I can't imagine ever using up, so I put them together and it's magical!

Moving along...  I've been very busy both in and out of my stamp room lately and I have a tidy garden and a surprising lot of cards to show for it.  I hope I'll be back with more soon.

1, 2, 3 Snowpeople for Christmas in July

Greetings, friends!  I couldn't let July get away from me without some Christmas cards, could I?  The CAS Christmas Challenge reminded me to finally play with The Snow Notes from Spellbinders which I loved at first sight and promptly added to my not-yet-used basket... and there they sat until now.

The first is a solitary snowman, hopefully CAS enough for the challenge.  I embossed with Tim Holtz Sizzix Snowfall folder and tucked him into a snow bank made with Poppystamps Stitched Cloudline.

The second card, below, is possibly my favorite.  The two of them are belting out a song which I'm sure is their sentiments exactly.  More of the Stitched Cloudline -- above them for clouds and below them for snow.  The falling snow comes from the button holes of all six snowpeople.

Last, but not least, we have all three of them caroling their hearts out.  The Starry Night is a Taylored Expressions cutting plate from way back.  Hmmm... maybe this one is my favorite?  I can't decide, not that it matters anyway.  They look somewhat like they're caroling in the clouds.  Snow angels?

Daisies for a Lovely Friend

Hello again and happy Monday!

I sure have been having fun with my Spellbinders flowers lately.  These funky Fresh Picked Daisies are another set that's been in the not-yet-used basket too long.  I'm trying to turn over a new leaf and get caught up.  I wonder how many times I've said that.

Easy coloring this time with Copics.  I pulled a background from my bag 'o backgrounds.  It's a soft piece that resulted from pressing regular Hammermill cardstock into inks left over from a watercolor.  The sentiment is Penny Black.  The sequins are peach colored.  Everything is listed in the recipe at the end.

This card is already in the mail to a lovely friend.

Hi again!  Another day, another challenge or three...

More Spellbinders from my use-next basket -- Stylish Oval Hello You Floral.  It was a very quick make considering I had the Spellbinders Essential Stylish Ovals in my stash and could, therefore, simply copy the image panel as shown on the packaging.  Furthermore, the Color Hues Challenge decided the colors for me -- yellow and black.  Just a little ink blending on the flowers, a black Copic marker for the small parts, and it was ready for assembly.

The sentiment was cut right into the black oval, with a same size white oval underneath.  Woodgrain cardstock for the base, two yellow strips and three black gems -- done!

Vellum, Die Cuts, and NBUS (Three Challenges)

Hello again and welcome!

I recently moved several items from my not-yet-used baskets to a use-next basket on my work desk and I'll be happily working my way through those in due time.  Spellbinders Fresh Picked Vase Bouquet was plucked from one of their warehouse sales who-knows-how-long ago and today it has made its way onto a card.  I intended to use it on a darker or more vivid background, but I had this embossed yellow piece, and Seize the Birthday is asking for vellum or acetate.  Now that I've got my mind around it I think it's kind of okay.

Using a double-sided adhesive sheet I adhered thin vellum to pale yellow cardstock and then embossed with Spellbinders Criss Cross Motif 3D folder.  I thought I'd be okay with cutting all the flower parts from colored cardstock, but I ended up doing a little sponging on the blooms and then adding sparkle and shimmer, none of which shows much in the photo.

I added cardstock strips and a string bow to the vase, and stash sentiment "happy birthday" with Spellbinders Very Best Wishes die cut.  There is a vellum shadow under the "wishes".

Double D Challenge: Watercolor

Hello friends, and welcome back!  We're kicking off another Double D Challenge today.  Our theme is near and dear to my heart -- watercolor.  Have a look at this beautiful inspiration board:

Since I do love to watercolor my first inclination was to stamp a pretty image and start painting.  However, I also wanted to watercolor some of these Spellbinders flowers so I went that direction.  Then I thought about all the watercolor backgrounds I have in my bag o' backgrounds and I rummaged around and came up with something very rich and summery and here we go -- watercolored Vintage Florals.

It felt a bit like cheating but, hey, it's watercolor.  The green leaves are from another watercolor piece.  It's good to find a use for those backgrounds because I'm mostly a designer paper kinda gal and they get left behind.  Today I'm happy to be using both!

I embossed a piece of 49 and Market Vintage Artistry in Mango with Spellbinders Molded Frame 3D folder.  It's very heavy paper so it worked out nicely.  I sanded some of the raised edges to enhance the embossing.  I cut a frame from another Mango piece -- maybe the flip side? -- and set it into the debossed area of the panel.  The butterfly is cut from the Mango paper ephemera sheet.

Fuchsia and Navy for Color Hues Challenge

Hello and happy Tuesday to you!

I'm playing along in the Color Hues challenge today, and I took this opportunity to crack the seal on a new-to-me Spellbinders die set, Vintage Florals, which I won in a recent Beautiful Blossoms Challenge.  Gosh, it's a pretty die set and I can imagine it even prettier watercolored.  I'll have to try that later.  Today I simply cut it from retired Stampin' Up sandable cardstock and sanded away.  Thanks for that reminder, Lynette!  I'm not sure what these colors are called, but today they'll serve as fuchsia and navy.

I made a simple arrangement on Spellbinders Molded Frame 3D embossing folder.  I'm not sure how it looks on your computer.  On my desktop computer where I do the editing it showed up the dimension quite nicely, but on my laptop in my craft room where I do the writing it looks washed out... sigh.  It can be so hard to get it right.

Seize the Birthday Challenge -- Add a Tag

Hi there!  It's my pleasure to be guest designing with the amazing team at Seize the Birthday for their current challenge.

The topping for this go around is "Add a Tag", but anything goes as long as it's a birthday theme.  I love to play the toppings!

Looks like I got my seasons mixed up but, hey, the tag was already embossed and waiting for me to color it.  I chose some Mintay Golden Days designer paper which was gifted to me at Christmastime for one of my favorite go-to layouts, in this case using Spellbinders Hemstitch Rectangles.

The tag is from the Spellbinders Mushrooms from Me to You 3D cut and emboss folder.  The folder makes three arched panels at once.  I used one last fall, and still have a mid-sized panel yet to design with.  Fall seems such a short card-making season with Christmas so close on its heels, so it's probably not a bad idea for me to occasionally enjoy it ahead of time.

The tag is cut from watercolor paper and colored with Tombow markers and blender.  The enamel dots are 1/4" and 1/8" burgundy cardstock coated with Diamond Glaze.
