Twofer Card Challenge No. 17: Bees

Hello and welcome back for Twofer Card Challenge #17!  Darnell is asking for bees this time.  I thought this sounded like a fun challenge and, sure enough, it was!

Remember the rules, and find more info on the Twofer Blog.

I've made a "hello" card and a "get well" card using a Frantic Stamper Lady Bug & Bee die and a few other wonderful things that live in my stamp room.  All these delightful toys, sigh... I love when I can really "play" with a card.

(Additional:  Cheery Lynn Chicken Wire Frame, purchased daisies, Power Poppy sentiment)

The first one was quick as a wink.  I pictured it almost immediately when I saw the challenge prompt, so when I got down to business it just fell together.  Best of all, I really like it!

The get well card was a bit more of a challenge.  I knew I wanted to use this sentiment and paper.  The layout was no problem.  But the jar...  Now, I know you're probably wondering where I got such a funky looking jar stamp.  Or maybe you already figured out that I drew the jar myself and that's why it looks so funky.  I know!  Hahahaha!  Nevertheless, it's functional, holding the one bee captive within its glossy glass confines, Stella-winked lid screwed on tightly.

(Additional:  Spellbinders Standard Circles Large and SB Blossom Nestabilities, Impression Obsession Grass and IO Leaf Cluster, flower punch, Whipper Snapper sentiment)

The bee in the jar was set flush into the card stock layer underneath.  I was hoping the gloss coating would smooth everything over, but it didn't quite manage.  Still looks cute, though.  You can see the expression of dismay on the captive bee's face, and her friends are fretting over how to get her out of there.  Don't worry... since I made the card I can also make up the story that she was later released in good health.

Come play along at Twofer.  It's an intriguing and fun challenge, and it really makes you think twice about your stamps.  The team and our guest designers have some fabulously inspiring samples.  Have a good day!

What a great idea to draw your own jar! You did a great job of it too! Loving those cute little bees in two different shades of yellow! Your cards always inspire me!

Wow, Leslie!! I love them both! The get well card is amazing. I'd never have guessed you drew the jar! I assumed you had a stamp. There seems to be no end to all your talents! Love the glossy effect of the jar! And the paper is perfect too! Two more wow cards!

Gosh Leslie!! these cards are amazing, love both of them.
The bees are adorable, I specially love their wings, what a great idea to cut them from vellum.
The layouts are fun and colorful, love your hand drawn jar and the glossy accents, your little bee does look a bit worried but I know she will be released, just like when my grandkids used to capture lighting bugs, I think they love releasing them more than catching them.
Beautiful cards and a fun and CHALLENGING CHALLENGE!!! I hope I can come up with something clever and fun to participate.
Hugs.

Love these cards, Leslie! That's a darn cute bee and the daisies are just perfect for attracting them! The little vellum wings are the perfect finishing touch. Sweet card! And your get well card is full of great color and has a wonderful design. That jar is not one bit funky...I think you drew it perfectly! Love that trapped bee, too. What a face! Another great card! Love both of these. Bev

Oh my gosh, look at those darling vellum wings. What a fantastic design idea - I always marvel at your creativity, Leslie - and the chicken wire looks amazing with the daisies - just like our vegetable garden (which is nearly pooped out from the heat). Your Twofers are darling! hugs, de

From CAS simplicity to clever creativity you made two very different and very cute bee cards, Leslie. Love them both. Love your Summer colors too. Hugs...

We, too, love it when you have a play with your stamps and we can see that you clearly had fun doing it! They are both summery and delightfully designed, Leslie! I love how you offset the honeycomb and that you cleverly used a chicken wire stamp to make it. I have a little chicken wire stamp, too, and I always think of honeycomb when I look at it; now I'm going to use it that way! I love how you gave your plump bees those gossamer wings ... brilliant! And go you for being artistic and drawing your own jar! I think it's awesome and I envy your ability! I love the unhappy look on the "bug's" face knowing her friend is ill and I'm glad to hear that both the recipient and the bee will be out and about in good health soon!! Hugs, Darnell

Your first card is such a lovely design! Those daisies remind me of refrigerator magnets we had growing up - I loved those! So glad the bee was released, and in good health to boot - lol! I do love the expression, and the vellum wings on the bees too! Kudos to you for drawing your jar!

Your cards are just adorable. They are so cute - I especially like the one with the bee in the jar. FYI - you can draw my jars anytime. And the vellum wings just make the bees even cutier! When my Mom lived in Vermont her neighbor was a bee farm. I have lots of memories of enjoying the goodies from the hives! Definitely, an under rated insect.

Oh my goodness these are sweet cards! Love the bees, the wings are so cool! Great job on designing the jar, I thought it was a stamp( insert smile). Love all the details on both. You did a fabulous job on this challenge, then again you always rock the challenges! Hope your having a great Monday!

Leslie, my brother and I used to capture big fat bumble bees in peanut butter jars - of course it's the first thought I had when I saw yours! What a darling get well card!
I must say your vellum wings made me happy sigh... and THEN you add that fabulous grey honeycomb!

Another fantastic job on this challenge, don't you just love when you have an idea and it comes together perfectly as did your first card, I love your daises that go with the bees so perfectly, they are so cute flying up to the flowers. I didn't notice anything wonky about your jar, I thought it was a stamp I had seen, you did a terrific job of drawing it in, and I like the touch the gloss gave to the jar, your little touches like the tall grass and little flower with it is just so sweet and special!

Love both cards and your clever description of the process. The bees with the vellum wings steal the show! What makes me smile even more than the cards is picturing you playing with the delightful toys in your craft room. Your joy comes across in every card you make!

Two AMAZING designs, Leslie!! Love the first card with all that glorious white space (CAS girl at heart!). The chicken wire with the sweet daisies is so fabulous. The layered bees with the vellum wings are adorable and so is the sentiment! Your second card is such a colourful and fun layering of patterned paper along with your cute hand-drawn jar (great work!), and the poor bee stuck inside. So happy to hear they it was later released and is doing fine. :) xx

What a fresh, clean and fabulous hello card, Leslie ... the chicken wire die makes a perfect honeycomb ... a lovely spot for the delicate daisies just waiting to be visited by those dainty winged bees! Amazing drawing and detailing for your jar ... and lovely layering with the papers ... so pleased to read that sweet little bee made it safely back to the wild from her 'hospital' home! Hugs, Anita :)
