Double D Challenge: Sunflowers

'Tis the season for sunflowers and that's Darlene's Double D Challenge for us today.  The mood board is inspiring for sure.  Who doesn't love sunflowers?

I bought my Stampendous Sunflowers last year and played with them a lot.  Now here they are again because I still love the set and the darling little bird that comes with it.

I stamped in Versafine Onyx Black on hot press watercolor paper, then clear embossed and colored with Tombow markers and blender.  It looks like watercolor, but it's just pens.  A blank Copic marker filled with homemade blender solution makes it easy to just sit down and go for it.

Blank Copic marker filled with homemade blender solution.
2 tsp glycerin
4 tsp distilled water
1/4 tsp 70% rubbing alcohol
Shake in a small bottle to mix.  Use eye dropper to fill pen.

All the pretty pieces are hand cut.  The flowers are popped up on thinnish foam mounting tape.  I went to The Vast Hoard for designer paper because I really need to use it.  These papers are retired Stampin' Up and not necessarily favorites, but the colors worked well enough.

Inside is a combination of two sentiments in the set.  A cute font and a nice thing to say in a card.

Pictured below is a cute stamp set for a random prize winner.  The team votes on creative favorites.  Such a difficult task, but we're dedicated to the process.

Come on down to the Double D Challenge!  You know we love to see your stuff and we hope you'll enjoy our samples, too.

Wishing you a sunflower kind of day!

I have been making Sunflowers this week and I had to come and check out yours! I love the pretty flowers and the sentiment inside is just perfect! I'm glad you were able to purchase some goodies from Heartfelt. I'm still reeling from the fact they are going away but it's also nice to do what I want to now!

Your sunflowers are a work of he-art Leslie! The water coloring is gorgeous!! What a brilliant idea to make your own blending solution and put it in a blank marker. I love how you've colored these flowers with the sweet little bird and ladybug looking on. A great use of those papers too.

I know that I have some of that background paper. I love that you used it for the background and let the sunflowers look like the sun is shining directly on them. They "Pop" and I know that it was your coloring that did that.

This is the time of year for sunflowers and your card is perfect timing! I love to see the fields all blooming. Love your little bird and ladybug admiring your flowers. It's amazing how we accumulate DSP. Some I hate to cut into!! I think sentiments really can add so much to a card and love the sunshine smiles!

This is a beauty, Leslie! I love that striped paper and embossed bark background. The sunflowers are gorgeous and that hello sentiment is fantastic. The script design on it is awesome. Looks like velvet paper.

Gorgeous card. I love that little bird and your coloring is amazing as always. I have also started using dsp that I've been hoarding all this time. It's about time to use it, donate it, or give it away. I'm cleaning out my storage room today and expect to have a few boxes of stuff to donate.

Wonderful coloring Leslie! Years ago we would stamp and color with Tombows on Cotton Bristol...blending out with a lighter color marker or the tombow blender. When Copics came a long I got away from the Tombow coloring but it would be fun to do it again! My Tombows are 20 years old or more now and they don't even make all the colors anymore! This coloring is perfect for Stampendous images! I love that Fran's style is still going strong! The Santa I just posted is Stampendous too!
