Pretty Garden Bird

Hello!  Back to basics today with something clean and simple.  I've been a little under the weather for a week or so and crafting has been a struggle no matter how willing the spirit is.  I thought a simple watercolored card might be just the ticket.

I used my Stampin' Up inks for this.  It's been a long time since I did that.  Drop ink in the lid of the stamp pad and use it like a palette.  Every coloring medium gives you something different.  I relaxed with this and, flaws and all, I like it!

The stamp is Penny Black Chirping, from their latest release.  I'm a fan, for sure.  The sentiment is an older PB set called To You.  I drew a border and added a few gems.  The card is 4 1/2 x 6.

That was just what I needed.

  • The keyword at Addicted to CAS Challenge #235 is Garden.  I keep several bird feeders and birdbaths fresh at all times and cannot imagine my garden without the feathered friends who visit them.
  • I'm also playing along at Triple B (birds, butterflies, and blooms).  They have an inspiration board but not required to follow it.
  • Finally, I'm sharing at Darnell's NBUS Challenge #49 (never before used schtuff).  First time out of the package for my PB Chirping stamp.

Thank you so much for stopping by today.  I sure hope we can do this again soon!

Stamps:  Penny Black Chirping, Penny Black To You  Paper:  Fabriano Artistico Extra White 140 lb hot press watercolor  Ink:  Palette Noir, fine tip black pen for border  Coloring:  Watercolor with Stampin' Up inks  Other:  Honey Bee Log Cabin gems

Wow, I LOVE this beautifully water colored card, so soft, dreamy and absolutely gorgeous, what a great new stamp it is too!! I haven't been in my craft room all week, couldn't resist those 80 degree temps this week, but to snow on Monday, that's Michigan for you, flipflops one day and boots the next!! I did get a lot of gardening done but already got my my first case f summer poison ivy, so bad that it has gotten me up at 3:30 the last 2 mornings, I'll never learn. Hope you get back to 100% soon!!

Leslie, I hope you are feeling a little better by now. It's hard when something lingers on and on like that. I LOVE this darling bird card, and your beautifully watercolored PB image! There is nothing quite as sweet as birds, especially with their symphony of chirping in the mornings. Like you, we keep squirrel-proof feeders and watering areas for the birds. It's amazing when assorted owls, hawks or pileated woodpeckers hang out in the watering areas. They are so large! We have one watering area about 12 feet outside my craftroom window. So I get to see lots of things happening up close. Sometimes even deer show up there during daylight! Since we no longer have a kitty or "old puppy", more woodland creatures show up. Now, on to that amazing card - you know, of course, that all your masterpieces are especially remarkable because they reveal your heart of love for all things Nature. I especially liked the bleeding colors in this creation. Do you usually use 140lb hot press watercolor paper? Or do you use an assortment of watercolor papers? I do like the smooth, almost texture-less paper in this card. The little gems really look like little berries in the foliage, don't they?
Sending get well love,
de

Leslie, I had to laugh when I read the flaws and all, oh my goodness my eyes may not be good but I see no flaws in this Beauty at all, whatever medium you are given you do such an amazing job, I love this stamp and how you have placed it on the edge and like how you finished it off with your own framing, I keep forgetting to give that a try :) Love the finishing off with your gems too, it is total Perfection to me :)
So sad to hear you are still not feeling well and it is lingering so long, hope you are feeling much better soon!

Hello Leslie: I also think you are way to hard on yourself, your coloring is always beautiful and inspiring.
I'm so sorry you are feeling under the weather, I hope you feel much better real soon, it's not fun feeling sick, especially when the weather is nice and inviting, and I know how much you and Rich love walking with your sweet doggies.
Now, I love, love this card, this little bird is so sweet, it looks like he's smiling, enjoying a nice sunny day.
Beautiful image, beautifully colored, thank you so much for sharing.
Feel better soon, my friend.

Your sweet little chirper might be the one that woke me up this morning - though mine was a Mourning Dove, and you know how they can sing and sing AND sing!
She is gorgeous, Leslie and certainly seems like she was exactly what you needed! So beautifully painted and perched!

So beautiful! the way you do your water colouring just makes your image come to life. Love this Leslie - of course anything nature related I'm all in for it! I just received this stamp but haven't had a chance to use it yet. Sorry for the late commenting on your cards. I've just been so busy with work, long days and just don't feel much like looking at a computer at night. Although I did manage to squeeze in some card making over the last few weeks. Sorry to hear you were under the weather, I hope you are feeling better. Take care,
