Poinsettias and Snowflakes

Hi there!  Back to the Christmas cards.  I've already started getting them ready to put in the mailbox but I'm short by half.  Those that need to go the longest distance are mailed first, closer destinations are the last to go and probably aren't even made yet.  I need some quick cards.  Today's cards were almost quick.

I was inspired by Michele's cards here.  I didn't have as large a poinsettia and in the end my cards bear little resemblance to her gorgeous originals, but that's the way of inspiration -- you never know where it will take you.  There's a list of supplies (nothing new) at the end, so I'll mostly just share pictures.  All cards are the same layout (again, different from Michele's).  I'll show the full cards here:

Designer paper scraps create the foundations.  The red poinsettia was cut from an unattractive piece hidden away in my bag o' backgrounds.  Inks on glossy paper with some butterflies stamped on it.  Sounds nice, but looked rather hideous until I turned it into a poinsettia.  Now I like it.  The banner edge is the same.

The next is pink ink sponged on white cardstock.  The white paint splatters went wrong from the start, but we'll call it "art" and be happy about it.

I switched to snowflakes for the next two cards.  Only cropped photos of these because they're the same layout as the poinsettias.  The purple card uses the oldest snowflake dies in my collection -- Spellbinders Create-a-Flake-Five.  I'm loving the Pink & Main Glossy Dots all over again.

The next uses Cottage Cutz snowflakes.  A split background in this color competed with the snowflakes so I left it solid.

The split background is a go-to layout.  For these I cut a white panel 3 1/2" wide.  Any length works.  Mine are 2 7/8".  I glued the 3/4" strips to the white panel and then glued that onto the card.  It's easier to keep the strips straight that way, and the panel gives just a tiny touch more dimension to the design.

This is Thanksgiving week here in the US.  The grocery stores are crazy so I'm "thankful" to be all stocked up.  Wishing a happy Thanksgiving to all who observe it, and a happy everything to everyone else!

Stamps:  Lawn Fawn Winter Wavy Sayings  Paper:  Neenah 110 lb white, SU Pink Pirouette, glossy white, various older designer papers  Ink:  Various for sentiments, forgotten colors for glossy Poinsettia  Dies:  Poppystamps Stitched Poinsettia Trio (2016), Cottage Cutz Snowflakes Set, Spellbinders Create-a-Flake-Five, Lawn Cuts (Lawn Fawn) Fancy Wavy Banners  Other:  Pink & Main Glossy Dots

Gorgeous cards!! Those Poinsettias are stunning!! Love the snowflakes too, though I have seen too many REAL ones here lately, lol, they are MUCH better on a card!! But starting today our weather is going up to the 40s, so now all that snow will start melting into an icy mess at night, sigh!! Last year I bought several Poinsettia supplies for this years cards, but I change it a few weeks ago to something else, so much inspiration out there!! Thanks for you nice e comments on my cards and view, we have lived here for 28 years and I never tire of the view!! Have a Happy Thanksgiving!!

I love them all, Leslie!! The split background is a great idea - I'll have to try to remember that. Funny that you said they were "almost quick."

What a great set of cards. You clearly think the white splodges went wrong, but I think they look great. Thanks for tip about keeping the strips straight. I can't seem to keep anything straight, however hard I try. Happy Thanksgiving to you xx

Beautiful cards Leslie. They don't look quick, but they are so pretty. You have the most amazing collection of designer papers. Each one suits the main die-cut perfectly. I love the design with the four strips of paper under each die-cut (except for your least card). I am totally inspired by you,my friend. xx

If you were only thinking of me while crafting with those gorgeous Poinsettias you've warmed my heart, Leslie! My pink one was made with an inked piece that couldn't stand alone - it's so smart of us to keep our 'trials!' I love your gorgeous red!
Your snowflakes are really lovely with these fun papers - and ours are melting nicely and THAT is what I am thankful for!
And, of course, friends as sweet as you...

What a great set of cards! You had a wonderful sample to be inspired. They don't look too quick - I'm sure it some time to make them. Love the snowflakes and poinsettias for the main focus. We tried to go shopping early this morning but we weren't the only ones that did that. We didn't need much but definitely a hit to the pocketbook. Hope you and Rich have a great Thanksgiving. We aren't celebrating until Saturday as Jennifer is with her Dad this year which gives me more time to get ready thank goodness!

Such wonderful cards, Leslie! I'm not even close to finishing my cards but I'm still keeping up a bit at a time making them. Your poinsettias and the split layouts are beautiful and I just love the greetings banners. You are inspiring me for sure!

these are just beautiful, I love the version you came up with, love ideas to use my scraps, I do like how our backgrounds that don't turn out well for other things work great for die cuts, the flowers are beautiful and great idea to try it with the snowflakes too!
I am hoping to start getting my cards out in the mail by the beginning of December but we will see how that goes.

What a great use of those less than perfect backgrounds that we all have stashed away! They made gorgeous poinsettias and I love the backgrounds you made for them! The snowflakes are so delicate and beautiful on the patterned papers and I love those banners!

Beautiful die cuts, Leslie - but I am smitten with the poinsettias. Fantastic sketch, too. I am always wowed by the way the same elements change an overall flavor of a creation just by changing the designer papers or colors. These are lovely! I am behind... usually my cards are all addressed by now, and I have not begun them yet. Kilo's hearing is worsening significantly. When Jack leaves to go grocery shopping, or someplace where he cannot take Kilo, this old puppy's confused mind decides to pitch a fit. I notice I often have to whistle to get him to hear me. I hate seeing him age. But he still has so much enthusiasm and loves "working" side-by-side with his Daddy. He also enjoys alerting us to delivery people-- that is -- if he is awake at the time! I know you see little signs in Wally, too. The probiotics brand you & I discussed did make a huge difference in his overall health, so that is good. He enjoys looking out the glass doors at the deer, and lets me know if squirrels are on the porch LOL Wishing you a great week, Leslie!

Wow! All of these cards are so beautiful. It's hard to pick a favorite. I really like the butterflies stamped on the red. No surprise there. I also love the purple with the snowflakes. My favorite color. I'm all ready for Thanksgiving too. Spending the day with my family and my sister's family. There will be about 25 of us again. We all make food to share. Wishing you a very HAPPY Thanksgiving to you, Rich, Wally, and Lulu.

Each and every one is a work of art and I love the poinsettia flowers. I love how similar and yet quite different each is. You have done it again my friend!

These are some great ideas for using up scraps and an easy design to make many. Since I did a craft sale and did not sell many cards (20) I have 280 leftovers. Now I will have enough cards for quite awhile. I am still saving these ideas for the future. Love that banner.
