'Something New' for Penny Black Saturday Challenge

Hello!  It's a new week, new cards, and more new or not-yet-used supplies.  Today I'm sliding in with not much time to spare for the Penny Black Saturday Challenge with the theme "Something New".  I double checked and it's okay if your "something new" is several months old like mine, as long as it's the first time out of the package.

I'm using a Penny Black set called Be Happy.  Personally, I love the set.  It's not as mainstream as some of their stamps and I'm not sure it was real popular, but what do I know?  I just know I like it.

I wanted a clean look to this card, because that's how I felt at the time.  No inky backgrounds or designer paper.  I cut a frame and added some jungle foliage, not that giraffes generally live in the jungle, but they do live in the desert sometimes, so maybe...  Giraffes also do not have plants growing out of them, but that's what I love about it.  Is it a planter, or is it a whimsical fantasy piece?

By the way, do you know about Okapi?  They're the only living relative of the giraffe and their natural habitat is the rain forest, except they're endangered and now are mostly found in zoos.  They look more like a zebra.  Very cool!

Supplies for this card are listed below my signature.  Wishing you a happy day!

Stamps:  Penny Black Be Happy set, SU Itty Bitty Backgrounds  Paper:  Neenah Classic Crest Super Smooth Solar White, grocer's kraft, Bazzill spring green  Ink:  Memento Tuxedo Black  Coloring:  Copics  Accessories:  Scotch brand foam mounting tape  Dies:  Hero Arts Wood Frame, MFT Die-namics Wild Greenery

I don't know how I have my 70 years and not know about the Okapi! What a cool creature and most beautiful! Now back to your card I love the cool zebra and think maybe he is a planter...or not! Love those leaves too. Quite a clean card and looking good from where I sit!

New to me is something I have never used before whether I bought it used from someone else or new and never used :) This is too fun, and like the sentiment says just makes you happy, I love that you used some extra leaves with it to go with him :)
I hadn't heard of the Okapi, they are a different looking aren't they, I always get sad to hear of an animal going extinct, that is one thing about zoo's that try to keep a species going.

cute. I love the plant container. BIG GRIN Have a great day

PS: the lily of the valley flowers are the color of the paper, only the little yellow dot and the shading on the petals to define the shape. Since they are supposed to be white I needed them to stay plain to stand out against the background. Which is why I said technically they weren't painted...

What a unique stamp set and a bit different from what I'm used to seeing you create with ... but once again you've created an amazing scene and brought it to life! I too have never heard of the Okapi ... thanks for the lesson ... how interesting!

your giraffe is adorable with the plants growing out of his back. Love that wood frame and some leaves as his backdrop :)

Well this certainly makes me smile, how could you not 'be happy' when you look at your card! Love this adorable giraffe made into a planter. Your wood grain frame and leaves just make this feel like he is out in the jungle or desert, but it all works. Such a cute stamp set too, lots of uses there. I never heard of a Okapi either. I think they are very cool looking. Thanks for the little lesson on these guys! Wonderful card Leslie!

This is very cool and I think would also make a super baby card too-that type of image that could be used in many different ways! Had to go take a peek of the Okipa. Learn something new everyday! Thanks for sharing with us a Penny Black Saturday Challenge too! ♥ Sue K

That is what is fun about stamps they don't have to make sense or be colored like the norm. So a planter giraffe is great and didn't know that about those type. Interesting. This card frame is perfect, and awesome leaf accents. Very cute all around Leslie.
