Whatever Wednesday: A Suitably Masculine Sympathy Card

Midweek greetings!  I've been working on a card order -- mostly sympathy, get well, and thinking of you.  Although my friend says she doesn't mind extra postage, I try to keep her cards mailable with one postage stamp.  However, they do have to look crafty, which is why she comes to me in the first place.  In an effort to make some quick progress I started out simple, creating four cards with this design:

As stated in my title, it's suitably masculine.  She cards everyone so I can't forget the guys.  Ordinarily I shy away from black for sympathy cards, but in this case it was the best effect for the silhouette die.

Spellbinders Bird Call die, layered and matted on some old Prima designer paper.  A very old Just Rite sympathy sentiment set which remains an all-time favorite.  The leaf sprig is Die-namics Wild Greenery.

The next photo is the same design, different card.  Maybe you'll notice the slight color variation.  A little more pink in this one.  The first card has a textured white base while this card uses Neenah 110 lb white.  The black silhouette is layered on white with a little showing at the top edges for highlight.

Inside they all look like this:

Really and truly simple but there's something about it I like.  If it helps anyone with a quick idea for a masculine sympathy card, then it was worth the effort to post it.

I'll see you again on Flowerful Friday.  Till then... have a happy day!

Leslie, these are handsome cards and so appropriate for guys! I really love this silhouette die with the beautiful DP behind them. I love both variations. And what a beautiful sentiment! That's one one of the most needed sentiments -- sympathy that is tender and reminds the recipient that we acknowledge that we don't forget their loved one and that our memories are so important. Beautifully done, sweet friend! Looking forward to keeping up more soon...one can hope! Hugs!

Great CAS design Leslie. The background is so soft and pretty with the bird die cut and the sentiment says it all.

Simply Beautiful and filled with Love and Thoughtfulness. Your friend will love them for her stash of sympathy cards. Your card reminds me that I have some (lots) of retired SU DSP that looks a lot like your paper, which is beautiful for a quick background. Loved your die cut birds on a power line image. Your 2nd card with the white shadow effect really made the image pop nicely. Wonderful sentiment too. TFS Leslie. Hugs...

I for one struggle with sympathy cards - especially if it is for a man. I think these are really nice with the silhouette. I especially like the sentiment. I'm sure your friend will like them.

These cards are striking and so beautiful. I love the silhouette and appreciate that you explained the slight differences in each card. They are beautifully done, simple but elegant. I really like the sentiment and the way it carries the thought inside.
And the photographs - Leslie! They keep getting better and better! I wonder how you did that with the bokeh. But if you told me it might be way over my head.

Both are gorgeous cards! The silhouette die is beautiful. The paper is so soft and muted, perfect for your backdrop against the black die cut, very striking. The leaf sprig is a perfect embellishment, it's the little things like this that I love. The sentiment is wonderful as well. I know your friend will love these Leslie! Thanks for sharing these today. Looking forward to your Friday's post. :)

They are both perfect and such a great sentiment too! I love how you changed up the color on the second and gave it that white highlighting by layering the die cuts, love how you have matted/frame it too!

Such an elegant sympathy card, Leslie! I need to make a few of those; there has been a series of unexpected deaths in our little town recently. The Prima paper works so well behind that great die cut, and that sentiment is such a good one.

Leslie, I like the textured background paper because it provides a little bit of linen look, but I'll tell you what really pulls this all together for me -- it's the leaf! It provides a beautiful balance outside, and a peaceful finish inside. It's perfect, Leslie. An upward look to eternity with a sentiment that speaks to the heart in a difficult time.
