Double D Challenge: Winter

Hello friends!  Is it cold yet where you are?  We're feeling the chill here on the Oregon coast.  Double D Darlene is asking us to "Get Ready for Winter" today.  The inspiration board makes me shiver just looking at it:

When you visit the challenge blog you'll learn about the prize that's up a random winner (pictured below).  There are always creative winners as well.

Brrrr.  The two friends I chose to depict on my card are perfectly happy to be sitting in the snow, gazing at the stars above.  I think they're the sweetest -- Penny Black Star Gazing Friends.

First, I want to tell you about the sentiment.  It comes from the inside of a commercial Christmas card which I received as a gift from a charity to which we donate.  Ordinarily I pass those cards along to a friend, but this time I thought I might like to use some of the inside sentiment panels.  There is dark printing on the back of the panel which could be seen easily when held up to the light, so I had to layer the arch onto another arch and then mount it on a colored card base.  It worked out fine.

Aren't they just perfect with the sentiment?   I stamped in Memento London Fog and ink blended the background.  By blending around the stars and characters it left just the right amount of glow.  Coloring was done with Prismacolor pencils because it was the only thing that worked on this paper.  Lastly, I sprayed lightly with sheer shimmer sparkle.

It's a simple card with no embellishment.  Just peaceful.

Come see all the chilly beauty the team is sharing at Double D.  I hope you'll find time to play along.  Happy holidays, including the upcoming Thanksgiving in the US.  Enjoy!

Stamps:  Penny Black Star Gazing Friends  Paper:  Main image panel cut from commercial card, sentiment included, Stampin' Up Night of Navy  Ink:  Memento London Fog, SU Bashful Blue and Night of Navy  Coloring:  Prismacolor pencils and Gamsol odorless mineral spirits  Other:  Spellbinders Essential Arches, Imagine Sheer Shimmer Sparkle spray, SU Subtle embossing folder for card base

Adorably cute pair enjoying the peacefulness of nature and star gazing!! We are to get out first real cold and a bit of snow tomorrow but back up to 50 on Sunday, that's Michigan for you, winter boots one day and flip flops the next!!

This is adorable Leslie, and oh, so peaceful. I was wondering about that sentiment. I thought it was a stamp that I needed to buy. Bummer that I can't! ;0) That's a great way to recycle those cards that come in the mail. I adore the wistful look on these two polar friends. Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours!

You have made a masterpiece here. The scene of these two friends quietly looking at the beautiful sky with the stars really says it all as your sentiment states. I love reading your posts.

A pretty and soothing card. We've definitely gotten winter here in Calgary. About 5" fell on Monday and a dusting yesterday with more forecast and cold temps Brrr. Have a great day my friend.

Beautiful card, love the sentiment and cute image, love all the sparkle - bitterly cold here for the last two days and snow today-yesterday the boiler stopped working so we had no hot water or heating all day -thankfully now fixed.

So pretty. I love how you repurposed that sentiment. It is so peaceful. It has just turned to chilly here in H Town, which I'm not a fan of. Sorry, I'd like the warm weather back. Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours.

Awe, this is so, so sweet. I love the arched background with that great ink blending and splatter. Those adorable critters just make me smile, it's such a peaceful scene. This is just lovely, and so very dear.

All is calm, all is bright...this card speaks of tranquility. The polar bear reminds me of a book I read to our girls when they were little, "Are You A Polar Bear?". He and his little friend look content star gazing. I love the arched design that looks like a snow globe full of sparkle. Great way to use another card sentiment.

Your card definitely is peaceful, I love it, and how wonderful that you found a way to reuse that lovely sentiment. It all turned out perfectly. Yes, it has turned cold here. It is quite a shock to the system and to my poor tender plants xx
