Santa with Gifts

Hello friends!  Moving right along from Halloween to Christmas... I'm nearly at the deadline for the CAS Christmas Card Challenge.  I thought a simple red on white without a lot of extras might do the trick, but seeing as how I lack the CAS gene (ahem) it turned into more.  Sharing anyway because I've been fooling around with this card off and on for most of the month (believe it).

It started with the Santa which I placed over top of a separate sentiment.  Cut in SU Poppy Parade with edges sponged in the same color ink.  Double layered.  I glued those pieces to a Neenah 110 lb base which I'd dry embossed with a snowfall folder.  That probably would have been okay, but I felt compelled to do more, so I added glittery trim and snow.  Fine.  Left it sit for a while... and then couldn't stop myself from adding the snowflake banner.  I colored it a very light Copic blue, then coated with Versamark ink and heat embossed all sparkly.  By now I've filled up a lot of the white space and it no longer seems very clean and simple.

As if that wasn't enough, it took three separate photo sessions over a period of time to get a non-hideous picture of it.  I almost quit, but here I am with my not-so-CAS Santa card... finally.

CAS Christmas Card Challenge:  Santa

Now... I will show you a card I made with this Santa die in 2019.  I loved it but never posted it because it was too near Christmas and there were so many busy seasonal things going on.  It is perfectly CAS and that's why I thought to use it again.  I actually like it better, sigh.  Cute picture, too... sigh again.

We all have our adventures in crafting, right?

Take care of yourselves and I'll see you again soon!

Both beautiful cards and love the dies-the first would still be classed as CAS I would have thought as there is still quite a bit of white background

What great cards! I can't believe you didn't post the second one. I like the solid red against the white background. I'm always asking my husband what do you think, and then I add something else! LOL! It would be hard to chose which one I liked the best.

Both cards are lovely and I would be happy to receive either one at Christmas! I really loved the last card but just because of the embossing folder you used! Have a good upcoming week!

Wonderful cards Leslie! Love your 2nd card CAS - but I think the first card is just as lovely, love the glitter, makes it more festive! I have yet to start my Christmas cards, every year I say I'm starting early and never get there. Good for you for creating holiday cards throughout the year. Have a wonderful day Leslie, and always thanks for your inspiration!

CAS or not, both cards are great and I like all the additions you made to your previous creation. I'm also hard to do CAS because I like to dress things up with different embellishments.

LOL!!! I will take your "non-hideous" photos any day over my very best photos! Too cute. I enjoy all the little festive trinkets accompanying your darling cards, and the pretty background, too! I really like the sparkle detail on the child and Santa. I never thought of using that Merry Christmas die as a base for an image to "stand upon". It's amazing how different the cards look with the simple change of the dry emboss folder. Now, tell me your secret... how do you get into your Christmas "stuff" to accessorize your cards, when it is not Christmas? My decorations are all packed in the garage, and carefully labeled, but still, what a headache going thru them for a photo! Hmmm, I think your CAS cards are always so pretty, and wish I had your "non existent" gene! Wishing you a not too hot day, Leslie! hugs, de

Just cutting these darling characters in RED puts you on the genius list in my book, Leslie!
I feel you, Sister! Both of your cards are fabulous, and fun! It's the panel of snowflakes that I love just a wee bit more!

Hi Leslie. I love both versions of this sweet die. Adding the embossed backgrounds really makes the red pop even more against the backdrop. Love your added sparkle and shine you've added to the top card. Great work getting a good photo ... not always easy when there are sparkly bits involved. :) Thanks for sharing with us at CAS Christmas! xx

Both cards are fabulous, Leslie! The red sweet silhouette scene pops against the white textured background, and the shine of the sparkle is so pretty! Your photo styling is amazing too. Thanks so much for sharing the first card with us at CAS Christmas!

Leslie, the most endearing thing about this card is the silhouette of this little girl taking a gift from Santa, you can see the wonderment and joy on her face even if its only a silhouette.
Both versions are awesome and sweet.
Thank you for sharing.
Stay healthy and safe.
XO
Maria.

I understand fully the not being able to stop at times. I can't say which I like the most I think I like them both equally, I do like your shading of the ink on the die cuts, and the glittery extras to the first is so pretty. You always take great pictures, I am to lazy when it comes to taking my pictures, I take no more than 4 usually and pick from them which ones I will use, I know I should take out more time when it comes to that, maybe one of these days :)

Both cards are beautiful, what a great die this is, would be a great die to make several cards with, I really really like it!! The sentiment on the 2nd one is so perfect for Santa and a little child!! Cottage Cutz have their xmas dies on sale right now, oh my, can I resist??

Both cards are great, love that little die with such a Jolly Santa. If I had to choose I would pick the slightly more CAS one but so hard to choose :)

CAS is NOT simple, but you nailed it, Leslie! I love reading about your stamping adventures.

Some cards just have to give us a tussle don't they? Makes us appreciate the ones that just fall together! It turned out great but I can see why the camera didn't want to cooperate. Red and white with sparkle are very hard to photograph. Thanks for sharing the original too. Both are fantastic, Leslie! You are too hard on yourself.

Love both red and white Christmas Santa cards, Leslie. I see why the 1st card was so difficult to photograph and appreciate not giving up. TFS your more CAS 2nd card too. Both beauties. The 2nd card would be fun to make multiples and much quicker. Love all the texture on both cards. TFS my friend. Love and Hugs...Nancy

Lucky you having that die. Love the original one the best, but both would be well received at my house.

I have finally got round to catching up with you. I share your frustration re taking pictures, it is never straight forward and is often the reason why I don't post things. anyway both these lovely Santa cards are pretty special and I think I share your view that the older one is my favourite. Love those accessories in the photo too xx
