Flowerful Friday: Happy Bloom Three Ways

Welcome to another Flowerful Friday.  Maybe you remember I mentioned in an earlier post I was having trouble with my coloring and had made several "duds".  Well, one of the stamps I was having a problem with is Altenew's Happy Bloom.  It's a beautiful set with one large stamp, plus several smaller stamps and a few sentiments.  You can make lots and lots of cards with it and no two alike.  A smart purchase, I thought.  The problem was my own haste or expectations... I'm not sure... but I finally colored one I'm somewhat satisfied with.

For this card I stamped in Memento London Fog on X-Press It Blending Card and colored with Copics.  I masked the two flowers that overlap the sentiment banner and used a stamp positioner to stamp the sentiment.  Popped up the image panel and finished with iridescent sequins.

Inside I stamped a partial image in amethyst ink and a sentiment from another Altenew set -- Wishing You.

Okay... want to see the cards I wasn't happy with?

The card below was stamped in Ranger Antique Linen on Arches 140 lb hot pressed watercolor paper and watercolored with Stampin' Up! Watercolor Wonder Crayons.  Splatters, sequins, stitching, distressing.  It has grown on me and now I think maybe it's not so bad.  In some ways I like it better than the Copic colored card.  The sentiment is minutely off.  I know... picky, picky!

Card #3 is mixed coloring media:  Stamped in SU's River Rock ink -- a water based muted green -- on Neenah 110 lb white.  The coloring is Prismacolor Pencils blended with Gamsol odorless mineral spirits.  The faint blue shading around the image is Copic B21.  Finally, I added blue watercolor splatters.  Some of it I like a lot.  Some of it not so much.  The sentiment is way off.  I know it shouldn't bug me so much, but it does.

Holy cow, that's a lot of coloring!  I wish I could take the things I like best about each card and put them together.  Maybe next time.  I see lots more Happy Bloom coloring in my future.

You all have a nice weekend now and I'll see you again on Monday!

OMGoodness these are beautiful! I love all 3, one as pretty as the other! I loved reading this post as I was sitting here thinking if I rejected every card with something not quite right I would have to close my blog down LOL!! The best thing for me to get stuff halfway centered right was the TH stamp platform, I use it daily!! Anywho, your coloring is always always so spot on and so are color choices and designs! I have seen so many new flower stamps lately and this one is a beauty!! Makes me want to shop for all new! Have a happy Easter and give those fur babies a big ole hug for me!!

they are all beautiful!! not sure why you initially thought #2 was a failure as that is my favorite! it's so soft and that is so hard to achieve. all of your cards rock as usual. we are our own worst critics!!

Oh my I love when you get out your SU! goodies. I have them all too and seem to forget about them. The watercolor is my fave! I hate when I color klunkers too, but I can't imagine any of your creations would EVER be a klunker LOL!!!

I really looked at the sentiment that bothered you and I sure couldn't find anything wrong with it. All the cards are beautiful. I always enjoy your vibrant color selections the best. Looking forward to Monday.

ooooooo! I'll take your duds any day, Leslie! NOTHING is a dud when you color it LOL - beautifully done - each one so dainty or regal, or just plain BEAUTIFUL! How can something be plain and beautiful at the same time? giggle. Sweetness and Gorgeousness - and Leslie-style coloring - it doesn't get any better than that! love, de

Leslie,
I am so glad that you shared these with us. I agree that ALL 3 are beautiful! But it is enlightening to see them through your eyes. I also can't find a thing crooked about the sentiment. I love #2 best! (maybe it's the stitching?lol) Seriously, I love the softness and distressed look of that card. As far as your coloring, you chose different mediums and got different results with each. Excellently done, I love them as always.

Leslie, that stamp looks daunting to color! You did a great job. I applaud your bravery in showing us the ones you don’t like. The minute flaws are only seen by us card makers. The recipient will think they are beautiful. Take care!

I'm so glad that you shared them all, Leslie! My first thought was how in the world your coloring could be a "dud!" And I was right - it can't be! :) They are all beautiful. I think my favorite is the first one, but they are all winners - not a dud in the bunch.

Oh Wow they are just gorgeous, I just love how you achieve such beautiful dimension with your coloring in the first one, now going on to the others I say it must have just not turned out how you had envisioned because they are terrific also, I love the colors you used to shade around the flowers in the second and the splattering is a neat touch too, I like the pretty soft colors you used on the third. Isn't it funny how we pick things out that we don't like on a card cause I wouldn't have even noticed the sentiment might be a little off, glad you shared them all!

These are all just gorgeous!! Your coloring in any medium is just amazing! Wow!!

Gorgeous coloring, Leslie. I do like the 1st card a little better because of the crisp, clean Copics coloring, which really shows up the highlights. But your 2nd and 3rd cards are beautiful too, just different styles. I have to admit, I did not notice your sentiments being a little off until you told us. You need a MISTI my friend:-) So easy and perfect everytime. BTW, the trick you showed me when positioning wood stamps works great:-) Hugs and Happy Easter to you, Rich and the kids...

All 3 look amazing but I have to say that the first one is so beautiful with that big burgundy flower that just jumps out! Love your creations Leslie... Wishing you a wonderful Easter...

Oh my goodness, all 3 cards are stunning. I'm so glad you decided to share these with us, especially the 2nd card as I think this one is my favourite. Love the rustic feeling to this one, the stitching, distressed edges, the brown tone shading in behind, a truly masterpiece! I love seeing the difference in using 3 different mediums, same image but such a different outcome! As I have mentioned before no matter what medium you use, you seem to master them all. And yes, that is a lot of colouring! Have a wonderful Easter Leslie!

I haven't read the other comments, but I'm pretty sure most of them have told you that you are waaaaay too hard on yourself, Leslie! Your coloring is always fabulous and meticulous and your cards stand out a mile in the galleries you enter! These cards are no exception and I'm glad you shared them all with us! Happy Easter to you! Sometimes all it takes is to wait a day, and then reassess. I think all three of your cards are gorgeous, each for different reasons, and card 2 is actually my favorite. You're such an amazing artist, I also love seeing your "rejects" as well as your final version lol!

Truly amazing how color and the intensity of that color and the style can give such a different feel to each of these cards while using the same image. And oh.. the coloring and shading... such perfection, Leslie.
