CAS Mix Up Challenge: Flight

Hey, there!  It's a watercolor challenge this month at CAS Mix Up, and our host, Viv, has given us the prompt of "flight".  So... show us your watercolor of any kind as long as your card illustrates flight somehow.

I reached into the oldies for a bird in flight by Inkadinkado and watercolored with Tombow markers.  Sometimes my efforts at clean and simple leave me feeling my card is lacking something.  Seems like there should be another bird, a birdhouse, flowers... something.  Maybe just a bigger sentiment.  I could go on.  Maybe you're familiar with that feeling?

The background piece is one I made a while back, just goofing around with no technique in particular, but I'll bet there is a name for it.  I had stamped some leaves on cardstock, but felt they were too dark so I sprayed with water and then blotted with another piece of cardstock.  This is that piece.  I'd like to do it again because it's a nice effect.  I think you could call the background a watercolor of sorts, too.

A closer look...  I love this pretty bird.  Very fun to color any which way.  Dots of Stickles Stardust glitter glue appear almost like tiny gems on the bird's body.

By all means, have a look at the gorgeous card samples by the CAS Mix Up team and our lovely guest designer, Joyce (Cards-by-the-Sea).  I know I'm going to enjoy seeing everyone's entries.  Watercolor has always had my heart.  See you again soon!  Take good care.

Stamps:  Inkadinkado Patterned Birds and Bugs, Lawn Fawn, Wavy Sayings, unknown leaf stamp  Paper:  Neenah Classic Crest Super Smooth Solar White card base, Fabriano Artistico Extra White 140 lb hot press watercolor  Ink:  Various greens, Palette Noir, Tombow markers for watercolor  Other:  Spellbinders Scored and Pierced Rectangles, sequins, Stickles Stardust and Black Diamond Stickles

No, no ,no, don't add anything else, it is perfect as it is. That soft background and few sequins are perfect and definitely enough. That little bird is so pretty he can happily stand on his own xx

Definitely know what you mean about adding something else - but definitely not on this lovely card Leslie!
The bird is so unusual and I really like the colours you used!

What an amazing bird. It is awesome and needs no other embellishment. Have know idea what your background technique is called, either but it's ideal for your gorgeous bird.

I love Inkadinkado stamps and this beautiful bird is a typical example! Your coloring is just gorgeous and I love what you did to the background! FYI - I spent most of the day on follow-it and was doing pretty good until I got lost somewhere along the way! I had to send them my list as well since it was over 100 and a snapshot from feedburner to prove they were legit. I called Rachel and she came over to try and help. I think we did OK but time will tell. I'm way too old for any change like this! I'll keep my fingers crossed for us!

I'm just in the process of setting up Follow it so I was happy to see you tired it first, it's my job for this weekend.
I like the idea for using the CVS file from Feedburner to populate the new email notification list. Let me know what you think XX

Your CAS design is perfect the way it is, Leslie! Love your subtle leafy background. Great way to make one background and then get a second pull. The bird is beautiful with the design and colours. xx

Beautiful CAS card Leslie. I truly understand what you mean about sometimes CAS cards seem to be lacking something. I really struggle with CAS simple cards quite a bit becasue of that reason, but that's me. Your lovely background fills in space so no need to add anything else. Your watercoloured bird is so pretty. Overall, love this, and those little sequins finish this off perfectly! Hope you are keeping well. I finally got back to posting cards after 2 months off. Sorry I haven't been around to comment, but hope to get caught up soon.

I think this bird is detailed so he stands out on your card, beautifully colored and Stickled. (Is that a term?) Yes, I often feel the way you do about clean and simple but your soft background is just right!
