Beware of Cute Dog

The calendar says it's the first day of autumn and the view out my window confirms it.  Things sure did change in a hurry.  Not much in the way of falling leaves yet, but rain, shorter days, waning garden.  We've had a lot of exceptionally beautiful days recently, too.  Autumn... when it's good it's very very good!

I made a fall card to celebrate.  This Beware of Dog stamp is new to me, but it was released by Penny Black in 2001.  I was shopping for stamps at 1-2-3 Stitch, searched "Halloween", and this guy (with many others) popped up.  Searched and purchased the Hero Arts Wood Frame die set there, too.  Love that place!

Anyway... I figured this stamp does not have to be just for Halloween.  It doesn't even look like a Halloween stamp here, does it?

That's because I inked the outline with a marker and left out the Halloweenie parts.  Dressed him up for fall with die cut leaves and patterned papers and a sentiment from my stash.  Everything's watercolored with Tombow markers.

But wait, I did make a Halloween card, too.  This time I stamped him as is, cut him out, and tucked him into a simple scene with a stenciled sky background.  Not scary at all.  Just fun.

I see many uses for this dog.  He could pop out of a big present or a cake.  He could ride in a truck.  Wave through a window.  On and on... these are some of the things I've tried him with and will make later.  We spent quite a bit of quality time together in my stamp room, but too many new things need to be colored before this busy stamping season is over.  Seasonal stamps... I swore I wasn't going to buy any...

Have a happy day!

Well you had at 'dog'...what a cutie pie he is I can see why you fell for him. Both cards are as cute as can be!! I have had a few things fall into 'my' cart recently..it happens!! Today being first day of Fall it is quite nice here, we are still having 70's and 80's and will take that for sure. We hope to go north (as we call it) and see some color there about mid week.

Oh Leslie, your little popping up dog is adorable and I swear he's a golden! The designer has really captured the goofy smile and the 'look at me' attitude that goldens have :) I can see how versatile he's going to be too - as you've shown with two very different cards here. Gorgeous!

You had me chuckling at the first card, and I could just feel the happiness popping up with your puppy's great joy! Beautiful shading, Leslie. And then I scrolled down to see what other details you would share about this sweet "best day ever" creation, and was treated to a whole other FABULOUSLY COLORFUL happy creation! You know it's Halloweenie night with Jackolanterns and purple skies! Darling card, Leslie! hugs, de

He is just so happy, how could you resist :) Perfect for the first day of fall, I have bought those frames too, love the them. I love the way you colored him too, your leaves are so cool too.
I so love the way you tucked the second one , love that little face on the pumpkin, just as happy as the dog, like the tall grass with him too and the cloud background is just terrific, such cute and fun cards to start the season!

Oh Leslie, these are so cute. I love what you did with that pumpkin puppy. The fact that you have so many plans for him makes it a really good purchase.

OK, so I'm going on another search with these links but must first say how much I love what you've been up to! This pooch is definitely full of fun and looks as if he's thriving from your quality time together. Love the way you colored him differently on each card. The leaves and wood frame are great additions! Darling cards, Leslie.

Fantastic use of the design to make a fall card vs a Halloween card. Your coloring and shading is superb.

Okay, this is one cute puppy! A very versatile stamp as well, as I see you already have some ideas to use him in future projects - money well spent! The first card is so adorable, love your watercolouring, and that wooden frame is gorgeous! I love how you turned this into a fallish card, wonderful leaves as well. Your second card is so cute, love how you created your little scene with rolling hills and lots of clouds. Love the little 'boo' as well. Penny Black makes the best stamps. I have collected her stuff for years, I really should purge but have a hard time doing that with her collections. Thanks for sharing today, always love when you do!

These are both adorable, Leslie! You are so clever, and it sounds like you have lots more ideas. I'm happy that you've had so much time to play!

I hear you about 1-2-3 Stitch! I went over a couple of Twofers ago to buy something someone had used. That single stamp cost me $172.28!! Of course, I received about 50 items for that amount, but still.I.only.went.for.ONE.thing, lol! I concur that this little guy in his punkin shell and that frame were HTH (had-to-haves)! I love how you used him with and without his punkin face! Great eye for design, girl! I look forward to seeing all the ways you use him. These two are sensational!! Hugs, Darnell

Such cute cards! And you are right - you can use this dog on so many cards! I'm partial to Halloween, so I like the one with the pumpkin face the best. Looking closely at the different cards, I think if your dog was colored white with some black spots he would look like Snoopy!!
