Be a Mermaid

Oh, happy day, after a 3-week abstinence I got to play in my room!  That's a long time to go without getting crafty, don't you think?  This card is a great bundle of little things... the kind of card that grew on it's own and became much more than I'd originally planned.

It started with the sentiment.  It's a digital gift that Donna Ellis shared on her blog here (scroll to the end after you get there).  I've always loved this sentiment, whether it applies to a mermaid or a unicorn.  Would you believe I have neither mermaids nor unicorns in my collection?  Soooo... before our vacation I went on a search and (ahem) ended up with quite a few things in addition to this mermaid tail.  I know that you know how that happens.

The sentiment, the mermaid tail, and the stencil with which I made the water are all new to me.  Everything else is from my stash (clouds, swirls, Nuvo Jewel Drops).  The mermaid tail was inked with Distress Oxides, then smooshed with Versamark and embossed with an iridescent embossing powder.  The panel of stenciled water was cut apart and the darker water in the foreground popped up.  A hint of very light blue Copic (B0000) was added to the clouds and swirls.

Supply list can be found at the end under my signature.

Thank you, Donna, for this beautiful digital sentiment, and thank you all for stopping by today.   I hope to be back soon and, in the meantime, I hope you're enjoying your days in whatever way you choose to spend them.  By the way, I just have to say this:  I cannot believe it's September already!  Happy almost fall!

Wow, this is like no other, simple amazing! Love the mermaid tail, the colours and the embossing, just perfect. You have a great eye for details on this one Leslie, from the stenciling and all the swirls and clouds. Wonderful sentiment as well. I love the little nuvo jewel drops to finish your card off. A big sigh!! love this. Have a wonderful day Leslie, once again you have inspired me to go make a card. Have some outdoor birding this morning, then hopefully back to making a card.

Well your time away from the crafty space certainly didn't hamper your creativity. Your iridescent tail and flourishes make for one stunning card.

WOW! This is absolutely awesome! Your mermaid tail is colored beautifully and exactly as I would expect a mermaid's tail to look like! Beautiful colors and sparkly! Your entire mystical water featuring creation is perfect and of course the sentiment from Donna is a beautiful finishing touch! GREAT job (no surprise there!). LOVE it!

Hi, Leslie! Glad you got to play in your craft room (and thanks for the shout out on your blog). You have COMPLETELY INSPIRED me! I never considered using flourishes like this delicate ones on your card, to create motion! I especially ilke the way your mermaid tail is woven through the flourish. I'm sure it's your tail, because everything you do is magical, so I'm guessing this is a photo Rich took on one of your outings. The little clouds make for that special sweetness touch all your cards have. Thanks for sharing! hugs, de

I just love this card and the sentiment is just perfect. My little Granddaughter loves mermaids and has a lot in her room. I like that just the tail is sticking out of the water. It looks so real in the water. Welcome back to your craft room!

This is the best way of treating the mermaid tail. The swish creates the look of the tail just popping up from the water and throwing it around. How clever! You did such a fantastic job of creating the look of water in motion. The tail itself is terrific and looks just as I image a real mermaid tail would look. Fabulous card!

I'm sorry to be so late to comment. I've had to purchase a new washer and I couldn't make up my mind so I've had my head in the sand as far as crafting went. I love your card that sentiment is perfect and I love, love, love the tail. You gave it the perfect finish and it just makes a lovely card all around!

You might have been gone, but you sure didn't miss a beat when you returned as this card is stunning!! The mermaid tail is so creative with the EB powder, I sure wish my mind thought like yours!! A fabulous card!! I hear you on the gardens getting away from you, I used to have the most gorgeous ones and now the weeds have over taken them since I am gone so much during 'garden' season and the weather didn't help much this year either, so now I have named my gardens 'the garden of weeden'...it fits!!

I wouldn't have bought one of these dies, but now that I've seen your card I wish (like many times before) that I had your creative mind. This is right up there as one of my all time favorites.

This stood out a mile in my Bloglovin' post, Leslie, and I kept it in my inbox until I got a chance to come by and let you know how sensational I think it is! That iridescent powder on the tail is genius! I have some of that somewhere ... if only I still had storage capacity in the ol' attic to remember to use it like this when I get the chance, lol! The stenciled waves, clouds, and flourish are all perfect together and I agree, that sediment is the BEST!! Welcome home!! Hugs, Darnell
