Double D Challenge: Nautical

Hi there!  This fine 4th of July Wednesday brings us around to another Double D challenge.  I'm joining in with Team Diane's Nautical theme today.  It's plain to see my nautical-themed card is for the younger crowd, specifically for a little boy on his birthday.  Ducky is out for a sail and he took his fleet of toy boats along with him.

Pictured below is our mood board.  It's the sailboat that got me started.

Check out this cool die that's up for a random winner:

Now, why did I make this funny little card when there's all kinds of grown up inspiration on the board?  Well, I'm trying to do the smart thing and think ahead to the cards I'll need to get in the mail soon.  You never know when you're not going to have time to stamp.

Ducky is an older Bugaboo digi which I don't see in the shop currently.  I used him once for a baby card, but printed him twice.  When the time came to use him again I was glad he was printed up and ready in the digi box.  I colored with Copics, then traced around the image with a blue Copic and cut him out.  Assembled on a white card base, keeping it simple.  Added a sentiment from a Power Poppy set.

First time use of the sailboat dies -- yay!   Old Fiskars edger scissors for the water.  Cut the layered water line with a stitched die.  White gel pen for accents.  The red Copic bled through on the ducky's boat and no matter how many times I let dry then traced over it I could not get rid of the red, sigh.

Simple inside with a water line border and another Power Poppy sentiment.  All supplies are listed below my signature.

There's lots of nautical-themed inspiration in the team samples on the Double D blog.  Take a look and then I hope to see you in the link up.   Have a happy Independence Day!

Stamps:  Bugaboo ducky digi (name forgotten), Power Poppy sentiments -- Vibrant Thanks front and Party Time inside  Paper:  Neenah 110 lb white for card base and sailboats, Cougar white for image, SU Brilliant Blue and Bashful Blue  Ink:  Printer, Memento Tuxedo Black, Copics for coloring  Accessories:  Signo Uniball white gel pen, Fiskars Majestic deco edge scissors, Impression Obsession Sailboats, Lil' Inker Silly Stitched Die Set

Aw, cutest little sailor ever! And definitely a duck who doesn't want his feathers to get all icky in the water. So does he let water roll off his back? It likely seeps thru the sweet sailor shirt. Your color is fabulous, of course, and the water halo around the wave he is ride looks fabulous. But I especially like what you have done with the stripes and dots on the sails, Leslie. SO CUTE! and beautiful. Happy Fourth! xx

I must say you are always up to challenges, no matter what gets thrown your way you conquer and produce! Your duck is so cute, fabulous colouring - nice bright colours (love that you added blue around the image they cut it out!) and the way you created your water scene is amazing. Love it all Leslie, and Happy 4th of July to you and Rich!
