Double D Challenge: Sequins

Hi there!  I'm joining up with Team Diane today to usher in a new Double D challenge:  Sequins.  Honestly, you buy one bag of sequins and you have a bunch.  But then you "need" more colors, and more, and on and on it goes until you're swimming in sequins.  At least that's my story.  Well, here's some encouragement to use a few of those sequins.

I used only five sequins on my card today, but I tend to use them sparingly, which helps explain why I have so many.  I pulled a few from a pastel collection to match up with this springtime scene.

Here's our inspiration board and a prize:

The only thing my card has in common with the inspiration board is the sequins, but I couldn't resist coloring my pretty, not-yet-used Agnes.  Oh, how I've loved all seven of my Loralie stamp sets, but now they're no longer in production.  I shouldn't have waited so long to color this one, but I'm perfectly happy to love on her now.  To my eyes she's adorable!  By the way, she was sent as a birthday card.  What in the world do you do with a sentiment like "I feel pretty"?  Well, you make a pretty card and send it along just for fun.

Every part of my card is watercolored on Strathmore Mixed Media Vellum Surface paper.  I used another old, retired product for the watercoloring -- SU's Watercolor Wonder Crayons.  The background is swished and smooshed.  I'm enjoying these crayons after all the years of letting them sit unopened.  Each crayon holds far more paint than you find in tray-type watercolor collections, and they're actually paint -- not ink, not crayons.  Paint.  I wish I'd bought more than two sets.

Inside is spruced up with watercolored flowers and a Copic colored border.

Be sure to check the Double D blog for challenge details and to see the ultra-inspiring cards by the team.  There are more details about this card in the recipe below.  Thanks for coming to visit me.  You know I love it when you do!

Stamps:  Loralie Designs -- Agnes, Art Impressions I Feel Pretty  Paper:  Strathmore Mixed Media Vellum Surface, other white for card base  Ink:  Palette Noir, Memento Tuxedo Black (sentiment)  Coloring:  SU Watercolor Wonder Crayons, Tombow markers -- gray and black  Accessories:  Sequins, Poppystamps Freida Curve, Lil' Inker Silly Stitched Die Set, Scotch brand foam mounting tape

I am smiling from one ear to the other. First, let me say that I am a fan of yours. I love this card with the soft coloring that is just stunning. Next to Copic markers, water coloring is my favorite so I can learn from you. Your cute sentiment is just the perfect one for the image and I love her too. Don't you love the expression on the face? I am so glad to be part of this team.

Oh, my! Leslie, what an adorable and beautiful Agnes she is! I LOVE her and love her outfit and coloring! Amazing! It's funny too, because my paternal grandmother was Agnes and nothing like this beauty! She is so perking, and I love the watercoloring (and I too have some watercolor crayons and wish I had more). I love the sequins and giggled at the thought of having far too many and yet not quite the right colors! LOL! But I love her and am inspired to try my watercolor crayons. Did not know they were actually paint. Warm hugs, sweet friend, and I hope your flowers will bloom beautifully this year as they are starting to emerge! xoxo

Oh Leslie.....I want that doggie!! how incredibly sweet she looks all dressed up!!! Love the lavender shades of her beautiful dress and hat, oh my goosh!! and that background.....perfect for this little cutie, the sentiment says it all!!
Love how you finished the inside of your card, so beautifully.
I know what you mean about sequences, I do have a lot and I don't use them as often as I should. Thanks for the encouragement to add them to my cards.
Hugs,
Maria.

Hi, Leslie! How pretty the inside of your card is! So sweet, and perfect to write a message. But more than the inside, I love that you have colored "agnes" to look like LULU! Cutest fluffy tail, and all that soft, lovely long fur that looks like feathers. It's a darling card, and the best part of your sequin challenge is that you have used a long-neglected sweet image! Fabulous! It's almost embarrassing to admit that something has long been retired when we haven't even put ink to it yet - believe me! I know from vast experience! LOL thanks for sharing your watercolor delight. hugs, de

This card is just adorable! I love how she is all dressed up in her outfit with the hat to match! I love the colors. The sentiment definitely matches the picture!! The inside is finished off so well. I know what you mean about saving the goodies. I have to use mine more and not hoard them so.

Oh, I love Agnes! She is so sweet, she makes me smile. Beautiful water colouring so soft and pretty, and love her purple outfit. I hear you about the sequins - I don't think I'll every use up what I have, I really should use more on a card and more often. The pastel sequins are so pretty. Love how you did the inside of the card as well. I love visiting your blog, you inspire me so! Have a wonderful day.

Oh my! Such cuteness! I just love that image. So sorry to hear that it's not available any more. The card design is fabulous. Love the watercolor background and of course how you colored the image. We have so much stuff - markers, pencils, crayons, chalks, etc. It's hard to decide which ones to use so I end up with my Copic markers, but it is such fun to try a different medium.

Well now, this shows how long we go back. I remember seeing one of the first Loralie stamp sets you used. Still as adorable, and wonderfully colored. I'm not sure Lulu would put up with being "dressed up"do you? (laughing). Our daughter made pilgrim hats for both her Bull Terriers, then took them to Plymouth Rock Park and took photos. She wrote a story called, Happy Thanks for Giving. The last page showed both dogs sitting on "the picnic table of peace" one with their pilgrim hat on and the other with her Indian headband. I'm telling you we were in stitches laughing. But I digress. I love the card, Leslie, because I know how much you love all animals. And hey, every woman should own a string of pearls or a few sequins (winking).

XO

Oh, you are killing me with the gorgeous use of those watercolor crayons, because not long ago I gave mine away.
This image is fabulous and so so pretty in purples and lace! The sweet expression in Agnes' eyes is enough to make me burst out in song, LA! And last but not least - the sequins are wonderful! Yes, I am swimming in them happily. I have a few color assortments although most often I find myself reaching for the clear ones.

Watecolor crayons? What are these magic things of which you speak! I swear you could color beautifully with old paint rags, Leslie! I am crushing on your adorable NBUS Agnes!! (Honestly, she looks strikingly like my Aunt Trudy, may she RIP!) And, sigh, the inside of your card looks better than the outsides of a lot of mine!! Hugs, Darnell

You know my sequins secret... GASP!!! ha ha! Yep that seems to be the case and I have yet to get these tiny tiny ones I found at the local craft store. They taunt me every time I go in, might just break down and get them next time. She is just darling. Springy colors, so fresh and fun. Of course you know I love the sequins accents to boot.
