A Little Bit Retro

Happy Monday, friends!  Today I get to be a guest designer for the Retro Rubber Challenge.  I did say recently that I'd like to use my retro stamps more often, and this challenge encourages us to do just that.  Any stamp more than a year old we're calling "retro".  So, see, you don't have to be an ancient stamper like me in order to play along.  Bet you've got some old stamps needing love, don't you?

Today through November 4 it's a color challenge.  There's an inspiration photo which shows a pretty fall scene, but you don't have to make a fall card.  Just be inspired by the colors.  See below:

I've been rather dedicated to fall this year, seeing as how it's usually shortchanged by the need to start on Christmas cards, so a fall card it is.  I combined three stamp sets, all several years old:
  • A bit of poetry -- Firecracker Designs by Pamela, no longer making rubber stamps
  • Foliage Trails -- Inkadinkado
  • Itty Bitty Backgrounds splatter stamp -- Stampin' Up!
I think this little poem is perfect for a fall birthday.

Could this card be any simpler?  Sometimes it just works out that way.  Even some of the inks I used are retro -- Pumpkin Patch Kaleidocolor pad and SU! Bashful Blue -- from the previous decade.  Heck, that Kaleidocolor pad might even be from the previous century!

Hop over to Retro Rubber and take a look at the oldies but goodies the team is sharing, then show us yours.  It warms my heart to see the old stamps in use.  Enjoy your day!

STAMPS:  Firecracker Designs Poem (no set name on package), Inkadinkado Foliage Trails, SU! Itty Bitty Backgrounds  PAPER:  Neenah Classic White  INK:  Pumpkin Patch Kaleidocolor, Bashful Blue, Memento Tuxedo Black  ACCESSORIES:  Taylored Expressions Stitched Rectangle Stacklets, Scotch brand foam mounting tape

Oh Leslie, your card is perfect for this challenge. Love all the 'retro' products you used. I even have a few of your old items you mentioned like the Kaleidocolour ink pads, and I do believe they are from the last century! Love the poem too! Thanks for squeezing in a 'fall' card, I know I'm trying to work on Christmas cards too. Enjoy your day!

Don't you just love it when you can combine stamps and it all comes together like they are all from the same set? A beautiful card, yet easy to mail, I love that. I love the pretty fall colors, too. You always inspire me to get my stamps out (and I do have some oldies)...have a wonderful day, I am headed out of town to visit my grandson in the hospital!

Hello Leslie: What a beautiful card, clean, simple, full of nostalgic memories of Autumns past. I've experienced the very thing your lovely and moving sentiment portrays, my little grandchildren jumping in the piles of leaves while we are trying to rake them back, so sweet are those memories.
Love the rich colors you chose for those gorgeous, leafy branches, perfect frame for those amazing words.
Thank you so much for sharing this beautiful card with us at RETRO RUBBER, we always love seeing your creations in the gallery.
Big hugs,
Maria Rodriguez.

Sometimes, clean and simple is the best! In this case the card is simply gorgeous! I have several ink pads that have long been retired and I continue to use them for coloring flowers. Sometimes you just need something that you have had for awhile. Can you say "Hoarder"? That's me to a tee! Enough rambling this morning. I love the colors on your card and the leaves are genius! Well done girl!

Good idea to let that awesome sediment be the star of the show, Leslie! I love the way you have framed it with your fall leaves and I agree that our beautiful fall season gets short shrift in the rush up to Christmas. Congratulations on the GD gig! That photo is phabulous!! Hugs, Darnell

You always inspire me...both with your beautiful cards & your words. This is just gorgeous & brings back a lot of happy memories, both from MY childhood and my daughters. Some of our beautiful fall colors are now past their peak, but it is still gorgeous outside. I can't wait until the day I can start making cards again & all the packing & moving is over!

Aaahhh...I love your pretty and sweet Fall colored design Leslie. Your sentiment is just perfect for a Fall card. A few days ago I was watching a cute, about a 4 year old little girl kicking her way through a pile of leaves :-) TFS your beauty Leslie. Hugs, Nancy

How nice to be a GD for one of your favorite challenge blogs, Leslie! It does not get any better than that, does it? Loving your CAS design with your multiple colors in the beautiful foliage corners, and how they fit so cohesively "blowing" in opposite corners, yet in the same direction. Fantastic! The sentiment is sweet! Funny you should say that about Christmas cards. I've actually come to the conclusion that I may not have any to send this year! Yikes! Not the most catastrophic of events, though, is it? LOL Hoping you are enjoying a lovely week (I very much enjoyed your sent FB photo of golden with baby). hugs, de

Oh, Leslie, this is spectacular! CAS cards are so difficult for me but maybe if I had some beautiful sentiments like this wonderful poem, I could use yours to make one almost as great as yours! You used the photo inspiration perfectly and the results are incredible. Thanks for joining us as our guest designer at Retro Rubber! I can't wait to see what you make for our next challenge!

I do love this card...that is such a special sentiment in that beautifully simply "frame" of images and color. I didn't read carefully at first, so couldn't figure out the "retro" part---until I re-read the entire post. :-) It's a terrific card, Leslie.

Hello Leslie, CAS it is, and a great make! I love my Kaliedacolor pads I have one that is almost 20 years old. But I have some newer ones as well, they hold up nicely. Great to have you as GT with us at Retro Rubber.

I like this card - clean and simple is always exquisite. I don't do much white on white but I love the look! Have fun with the leaves!

Hi Leslie! Thank you for being our guest designer! Your card is spectacular! I love the rainbow leaves but that verse is so beautiful! The blue speckles really did make the difference in this card! I am so glad you enjoy our challenge and equally glad we get to showcase you!

How fun... and I have those old rubber stamps that need dusting off. Might have to try and play tomorrow after meeting. This is so pretty and great white space.
