A Special Father's Day Card

Ever since we've had Wally and LuLu I've been making dog cards for Rich for Father's Day.  They're from Wally and LuLu, of course, because they can't make their own cards.  Rich, being The World's Best Dog Dad, deserves a special card, so this year I thought I'd try something a little different.

Using an idea from Debbie Olson's blog here I converted a photo to a digital stamp and then watercolored with Tombow markers.  Seriously, I should have paid more attention to Debbie's coloring tips as I think the Copics would have worked out better, but at the time I was only thinking about converting the photo.  I know... excuses, excuses!  I realize this card is only special to The World's Best Dog Dad, but here you go anyway:

Easiest thing in the world to do.  I opened the picture in Photoshop Elements 7, applied a "stamp" filter to it, lightened a little, then printed.  By the way, Debbie shared a link to a free software program that does essentially the same thing.

It's somewhat painful to look at the actual photo and my painting in such close proximity.  I couldn't seem to get the gold color right.  All efforts made them either too yellow or too red, so I settled on the red.  Hey, if you didn't know them...

I stamped the "bark woof" over top in Memento Tuxedo Black.  The stamps are from an Inkadinkado "Dogs" set.  It means "we love you" in dog language.

Finished it up with designer paper scraps and Core'dinations card stock (sanded) which I need to quit hoarding.  Brought some brads out of hiding, too.  I think he'll be surprised.  Maybe Wally and LuLu will get him some new tennis balls to go with it.

Have a happy weekend!

Leslie this is wonderful! Oh my goodness... what a clever idea and they look perfect. I like that you make a card from them each year, its very sweet. This has to be my favorite one though, well maybe the first one you made with just Wally (the one the artist drew for you) but this holds a very close first also. He is going to love it I know it! Their fur looks great, maybe they have a little red in there and you just can't see it as well. hee hee

Shut up! I had NO idea this sort of thing could be done! How extraordinary and special! What a beautiful way to make a personal card!! Thank you for sharing, Leslie! I think you did a PERFECT job with your coloring! It was so good, in fact, that I didn't even notice the fabulous matting and background you created until you mentioned it and I scrolled back up to look! Rich is a very lucky dog daddy to have such talented doglets!! Have a great FD's weekend! Hugs, Darnell

Oh my goodness Leslie!!!!! I'm with Darnell, I too didn't know this could be done, as I was reading your post, images of my grandchildren kept popping in my head, pictures of them on our Spring Break vacations when they were little, ohh!! I must, MUST FIGURE OUT HOW TO DO THIS!!!
Your card with your beautiful dogs is GORGEOUS!!!!! I'm just blown away, the colors are amazing, such a happy card, both doggies are actually smiling.
Your hubby will love it, I think he will love it even more than new tennis balls.
Thank you for sharing, I'm most definitely going to enlist the help of my very photoshop savvy granddaughter so she can show me how to do this amazing thing.
Big hugs!!
Maria.

You. Never. Cease. To. Amaze. Me.
NEVER.
Leslie, what a fabulous way of immortalizing Wally and Lulu. LOVE the technique, but more, I love your coloring. It must have been so fun with a flooding feeling of love for you to color the photograph style digi stamp. It looks just like them, but I almost like your rendition better than the real photo. In fact, I do. LOL

Thanks for the link and all the information - I would like to try it, too! I also did not know there was a "stamp filter" on PS. I would have been shaking in my shoes to stamp the "sentiments" atop the pretty masterpiece. LOL GORGEOUSLY done for the "best dog father" on the northwest coast. After all, Jack has to be the best dog father on the southeast coast LOL Happy week-end, Leslie! xx
