Red Bee Balm

Enough clean and simple for a while; it's time to play around because 1)  I love to color,  2)  I love to play with design composition, and 3)  I'd like to use my designer paper before it goes the way of the dinosaur.

I've spent a fair amount of creative energy over the years figuring on how to make an easy-to-mail-one-postage-stamp card that still lets me do all of the above.  Die cuts have helped with that.  Layers made of designer paper.  Sequins, but not the cupped kind.  That sort of thing.  If any of you have ever received a be-sequined card from me that lost its sequins along the way, please let me know.  I once received a card whose sequins had mostly fallen loose in the envelope.  I use Aleene's Tacky Glue for sequins because it's tidy and strong, but since I've never mailed a card to myself... well, who knows?

The stamp set for this card is Power Poppy's Vibrant Thanks from their latest release.  I stamped the Bee Balm three times, masking the first image on the left.  Coloring was done with Copics on X-Press It Blending Card.

The designer paper is old My Mind's Eye "Rosy" from my vast collection.  I'll list the dies:

  • Spellbinders Grand Ovals
  • Cheery Lynn Dutch Daisy Boutique Stacker A2 Frame
  • Dee's Distinctively Sm Pair of Leaves
  • Paper Smooches Hearts

I'm linking up today to the following challenges:

"Anything Goes" challenge at The Sisterhood of Crafters
Tic Tac Toe Challenge #012  I chose the "die cut, sentiment, and floral" row.

Hope you're all looking forward to a nice summer weekend.  Enjoy it while you can!  See you again soon.

Bee Balm, so pretty and red is my favorite, I have about 4 colors of it I grow but the red is so pretty just like your card! Lots of pretty papers, dies and details, love that little heart, your cards are always so well designed and colored so beautifully! Thanks for joining in with The Sisterhood too! I have the tacky glue as well, maybe I will have to try that, though I still have no idea if those sequins stay on , I hope so as I sometimes love that little added addition!!

Beautiful Leslie!! Never heard of Bee Balm, but it sure is pretty. I love how you can always put these elements on your card and you get a unified look, rather than a jumble!!

Oh, Leslie, be still my heart! Gorgeous! What a fabulous use of designer papers. Did those all come in a single pack, or did you spent the time to mix and match til your artist's heart was satisfied? Gorgeous colors of green and wonderful that the printed design elements are small enough to show up on these die cuts! Of course, your coloring and shading always bring peace to my soul - sheer loveliness - your highlights bringing a challenge even to Mother Nature. And that measure of love with the sweet heart interspersed with the dotted leaves - it's a wonderful card! hugs, de

OMG this is just beautiful Leslie! Love how you've combined various designer papers and of course your coloring is AMAZING! I too have some bee balm in my garden but mine is pink. The butterflies & hummingbirds seem to like it so might have to plant some this color and see what happens! Thanks so much for joining us at The Sisterhood’s ‘Anything Goes’ challenge and please come back again soon!

Beautifully colored flowers with such pretty designer paper and die cut border. All the things you love and sequins too:-) Nothing has ever fallen off a card you have sent me the last..15+ years:-) BTW, I use SU Fine Tip Glue pen for attaching sequins. Hopefully they have stayed on...like you said..we do not send cards to ourselves..lol! TFS my friend. Hugs

I love, love, love it when your cards have flowers! NOBODY colors them as realistically as you do! They look more like a photograph! Your coloring skills are off the charts! I love the dies you chose for this one too! And of course I noticed the gingham heart! Speaking of things falling off. I had a friend who just started making cards & she sent me a card once where I literally had an envelope full of individual pieces! EVERYTHING had come unglued! She tried using a glue stick to assemble her card & I can tell you they don't stick! We laughed about it for a long time.

Oh, Leslie what gorgeous coloring...I love bee balm and think these are exquisite! I love the amazing layout with your DP, and I agree that using dies really help keeping cards flat. I agree that using a great adhesive like Aleene's, etc., truly make the difference. Beautifully done, sweet friend! You've done it again -- like others have said above! Hugs!

Oh Leslie, this is so pretty! I love all the elements on your card, and your beautiful coloured bee balms. So rich and vibrant just like mine in the backyard. My hummingbirds love them. The shading behind the flowers is just the perfect tone, and love how you finished with a little gingham heart! I've always wondered if my sequins have every fallen off as well, but no one has every said, let's hope not. Thanks for sharing such a beauty! Have a wonderful weekend.

Fantastic card, Leslie! I love how you have layered the perfect pattern papers to complement your stamped and beautifully colored images! I use Ranger Multi Matte Medium to glue my sequins and embellishments. So far, they have gone through the mail in one piece--or at least that is what people tell me!

Gorgeous coloring and stamp set Leslie! I have to try your color combos! I just ran down the hall and my G43 and 46 look brand new! I need to use them! I loved reading about your card design style and about sequins not staying stuck. One thing I've changed in the last couple years is, I mail my cards in the next size up envelope. If the card is A2 size, I mail it in an A6 envelope. I've received so many A2 size cards in A2 size envelopes that the corners have been bashed up on, that I'm thinking this size up thing helps. I try to keep the raised stuff on the card to a minimum too. Good things to think about because we're going to be mailing out lots before we know it, Christmas!!!
