Soft and Subtle Floral Sympathy

Hello, friends!  The other day I endeavored to make some quick and easy, soft, pretty, easy to mail sympathy cards.  The one I'm sharing today was made with Penny Black Delicate Florals and a retired Stampin' Up! sentiment on shimmery ivory card stock.  I stamped once in River Rock and once in the darker True Thyme (both SU! colors, probably retired) and lightly colored with Copics.

I made this card to include in a batch I'm giving to a friend. She's a letter writer in the truest sense, and when she sends a card she completely fills it with correspondence, including the back.  I've received many such cards from her and it's always a pleasure.  For a nice finish inside with plenty of writing space, and to sturdy up the card without adding too much weight or bulk, I lined it with linen texture copy paper.

The copy paper was cut 1/8" smaller than the card and adhered only at one spot on the inside front, near the fold.  Everything stays nicely in place when you open the card.

The lighter image almost looks like it's under vellum, doesn't it?  I like that!

Every now and then it's nice to make a card with so little involved.  It's like taking a rest in between the more detailed projects.  I'll see you again soon.  Until then, have yourself a happy week!

Stamps:  Penny Black Delicate Florals, retired Stampin' Up! All Year Cheer 1 sentiment  Paper:  Shimmer Ivory, linen texture copy paper  Ink:  River Rock, True Thyme, Copic markers for coloring

This is exactly how I think a sympathy card should look like. Subtle is the way to go. Love the inside too, a really special touch!
Have a great week Leslie!

I totally agree that a sympathy card should be subtle. Done in good taste and not over the top. You have totally achieved that here. I love this and think it is just gorgeous!

Your friend will love this card and the fact that you gave her writing space. I think letter writers are a dying breed with e-mail and texting being the mode of communication of the younger generation.I know many people don't even call much any more... sad. Love your beautiful card.

Love this card! Love the beauty, the softness, the addition of the linen copy paper on the inside. Must check that out. While definitely a wonderful sympathy card, almost any greeting would be apropos. Can't wait to get to my desk to try something similar. And cheers to your friend, the avid letter writer! A rare treat these days.

Your card is just gorgeous! I love the "shadow stamped" image with the faded colors and the brilliantly colored image looks so pretty with those soft pastel colors! I love that big sentiment too. Everything works for a great sympathy card!

Wow! Absolutely stunning image. Love the soft colors and your gorgeous layout. It would be good to have a few on hand. Seems like I never have one when needed.

Oh Leslie! This is absolutely beautiful. What peace this image imparts with the soft stamping technique and coloring. And yes, it does look like vellum was used. I love the idea of linen copy paper as well. The SU font used for the sentiment is perfect with the shadowed image too. These cards are so difficult to create for so many reasons -- from heart and hand my friend, and it shows.

Beautiful Leslie and I love the softness of the stamp behind the main image and it does look as though vellum is over it (which is a good idea I will have to store for future use..lol)...what a pretty stamp this is too, you have inspired me to get some of my stamps out! Have a wonderful day!

Good Morning, Leslie! My heart sighed contentedly with peace when your beautiful still life popped up. Your cards always bring such love and loveliness to my soul - thank you for sharing your artwork. I especially like the softer whisper of an image behind your other focal image - great idea to stamp the main image in different colors to achieve different dimensions. Thanks for the tip. I want to learn to make simpler cards, too. Wishing you a great week! hugs, de

This is such a lovely card. I like using the shimmery CS as I feel it adds to the card. You used one of my favorite SU's sentiment. I love that stamp set and use it a lot.

Leslie, this is so beautiful. I love how you did the flower stamping, the softness of colours and the simplicity of it. I always find it hard to do CAS cards, but always in awe of others when they do them. I know your friend will love this. I have this stamp and I don't think I have ever used it. Your always an inspiration, thanks for sharing. Have a wonderful week, sorry so late at commenting.
