For My Favorite Valentine

I finally came up with something for my son's Valentine.  Not wanting to buy any new Valentine stamps, I looked in my stash and came up with this very old frog stamp.  He's a narcissist, as you can see (the frog, not my son), and I thought it would be comical to use it with the "you're my favorite" sentiment.  The frog is a wood block stamp with no labeling whatsoever, so I don't know the maker or the name of it.  "You're my favorite" is a sentiment from a retired Stampin' Up! set.  The grass along the bank is an old D.O.T.S. stamp.

It was a lot of fun to put the first card together, but I kept imagining the frog on a clean and simple card, so I made this one, too:

The clean and simple card gives the stamp a more updated look.  Now I don't know which one I prefer, but I lean toward the CAS card.  It sure was quick and easy!

Dies used on the first card are as follows:

  • Spellbinders Grand Squares (frame)
  • Impression Obsession Grass
  • Poppystamps Leafy Sprig Border
  • Cheery Lynn Faerie Mushrooms
  • Spellbinders heart

Coloring was done with Copics, the first on X-Press It Blending Card, and the second on Neenah Classic White.

Do you ever look at your old stamps and long to give them some love?  I've got bunches that are feeling very neglected, so I'm going to try and make a point of using them.  Have a happy day!

oh I love them both. What a great idea to do two versions! I gave away or sold all my old stamps as I never would have had space to save them. I guess I had too many!! HA

Why yes..... yes I do actually. hee hee We all tend to have so many stamps and neglect older ones. Trying myself to draw out the older ones. This froggie is darling. I like both versions and I am sure your son will adore his valentine. Too cute Leslie!

Leslie,
"I have too many stamps," said NO cardmaker EVER! Your cards are just adorable and beautifully colored. I love your idea of going back and using those stamps that haven't seen daylight in a while. I'm slowly getting rid of wood on my stamps and making them cling mount. That way I can fill the space they leave with NEW stamps! LOL I hope your babies are doing well. Love seeing them in photos.

What a hard choice to make. Both are cute, but I love all the different elements you used on the first one. Your creativity always inspires me. Hugs, Maggie

This is such a cute card for your son - I know he will love it! Both look great but I tend to like the first one. I like the mushrooms and the reeds. Reminds me of our when we watched Jennifer Friday. She ikes to dress up now in her princess dress and with her magic wand. She was turning Poppy and Nanny into frogs! I told her it was the other way around, but she said she likes frogs better!

Both of your froggie cards are just soooo cute Leslie. I am sure Isaac would love either card. Your coloring, die cuts, design on your 1st card is so precious and of course I love the simplicity of your 2nd card. TFS my friend. Hugs..

I could never decide on just one as my favorite! BOTH are just wonderful! Beautiful coloring as always and I love, love the sentiment! Whichever one you give him, he will treasure it! I'm betting there will also be chocolate involved! ha ha

This card certainly is worthy of the beautiful framing you did! The framing, the foreground and the frog all work together for a keeper.

Leslie, these are both fabulous cards. Such a cute image, and to make 2 cards! I love the simplicity of the 2nd and all the details of the 1st - the reeds, mushroom and sprigy border along with the cute little heart which has the perfect sentiment!I know your son will love either card. Your creativity always inspires me. I know what you mean about very neglected stamps. You have inspired me to pull some of them out and use them once again. Thanks for sharing. Enjoy your day.

Somehow I got dropped from your blog! I thought you were on an extended vacation. Lost you about the time Wally had his surgery. All is well now that I found you again. Great card!

That stamp set is just too cute and works well with both designs. Love how you framed the first one and added the die cuts to make a scene, and the stamps set is so clever that it makes a great CAS design.

Only you can turn a frog into a prince! Very sweet, yet still fitting for a young man.

They are both so cute! I prefer the CAS one, but only because that frog stands out so well! (I used to have some frog stamps that looked much like this froggie!)

They are both super awesome, Leslie, and I'm sure your son will LOVE his! I especially like those cute mushrooms. I love the simplicity of the second card. I need to get back to my SU project of using all of my stamps. I guess it's been on hold for quite a while now. I think about it every once in a while, but ...

I love them both, Leslie. I really like the wide frame, grass, and mushrooms - it's provides some nice depth to the whole piece. But, I think your grown son will appreciate the CAS card. It's difficult when they are grown ups isn't it? Happy Valentine's Day (tomorrow)!

I am so glad you decided to give your old stamps some love, and you did a fabulous job on both of them, they are both colored perfectly but I will have to say this girl does like her scenes and the more the merrier so I would have to say the first one is my favorite!!

Your frog is such a hoot! I don't think it matters if you dress him up with dies or leave him plain. He steals the show and is certainly the center of attention!!
