Butterflies -- Two Cards, Three Challenges

Hi, friends!  I'm happy to be back near the end of a busy week which didn't allow much time in my craft room.  I feel much better having finished these two clean and simple cards.

When I saw the Can You Handle the Pressure Challenge with the optional twist of butterflies I immediately pulled out one of my oldest embossing folders.  It's still such a pretty thing!

Firstly, I embossed, then watercolored with Stampin' Up Cameo Coral ink on hot press watercolor paper.  The fine lines and dots were colored with a Copic marker.  Also, the insides of the butterflies' wings were done with gray Copics which gives them that soft, almost vellum-like appearance.  All the dots were sparkled with Stickles Diamond glitter glue.

I somehow managed to smudge the sentiment with my fingers and then transferred more smudges here and there on the card front.  Hence, four extra dots were punched and added.  Can you spot them?

I'll be sending the first card to the following challenges:

Can You Handle the Pressure? -- Anything goes with an embossing folder, or optional twist of butterflies.
Neglected Stuff -- It's been years since I used this Butterflies in Corner embossing folder.

Card #2 was not destined to happen until I saw Michele's sketch at Freshly Made Sketches.  I always love their sketches, but a one week challenge is difficult for me to manage unless all the stars line up just right.  In this case I had an extra embossed panel of Cameo Coral which I'd cut down for the spare parts drawer.

I flipped the sketch to the opposite side, and my butterfly curve is a border rather than a free-standing element, but I hope it's still okay.  I brought the Snowfall embossing in from the side which looks very cool in real, but sorry it doesn't show up more in the picture.

Here's the challenge link and the sketch:

Well, this was fun!  I appreciate how challenges bring out the old familiars from my toybox.  Thanks, everyone!  Have a great weekend!

Wow, both cards are stunningly beautiful, so soft and dainty and so pretty in pink! Thanks so much for joining our challenges at The Neglected Stuff AND Can You Handle The Pressure, don't forget our Triple B challenge, you could enter there too! Can you believe I 'almost' made it to the end of the month without ordering a thing, but it was a small order of only 3 things I surely couldn't live without!!

Both are so pretty and delicate. Yes to that embossing folder. I've always loved using mine although haven't in a few years... Everything is languishing on my shelves. Have a great day

Both cards are absolutely stunning, but the first card stole my heart. The butterflies are so beautifully coloured and by adding the grey to the centre of the wings you gave them so much depth ♥

I adore both of your cards, Leslie! The soft pink and green is one of my favorite color combinations, and those dainty butterflies with the curvy lines are soft and lovely. I'm glad to know I'm not the only one who smudges ink. You did a great job hiding the bloopers.

A duo of pink loveliness Leslie!! I've never seen that embossing folder with the butterfly before and it's gorgeous! I love how you softly colored everything and great job with all the dots (don't have a clue which 4 are hiding ink smudges!!)! Your 2nd card using Michele's sketch and leftover bits is FABULOUS! Love that you flipped the sketch to the other side...I take everything so literally and stick totally to the sketch! I need to think more outside the box! But anyway, both cards are fabulous my friend!! Hugs. :0)

Your cards are absolutely stunning! Sorry to not have been around, I've been running the ditch lines here for several weeks. Things are finally beginning to come together and most of my Spring chores are finished! Hope your weekend is wonderful!

Leslie, I am thrilled that you found time to play cards with us at Freshly Made Sketches this week - you've put your own wonderful spin on my Sketch and butterflies are ALWAYS perfect from my point of view! I do love a pink and green combo - your darling woodgrain HI! and lovely bit of texture adds just the right amount of interest to the card base.
Thanks so much for playing along, Leslie! x

You've done it again, Leslie! Taking the the ordinary and turning it into the spectacular by employing a few tricks, your cards always WOWOW us! Your "copics on dry embossing" looks so light, airy, and STUNNING! I try to accomplish similar feats, but my hands just shake and tremble, making my lines not-so-natural LOL So it is nice appreciating such talent on your blog. I REALLY like the idea of watercoloring the paper. Darling cards, and great ideas (like wood textured "hi" LOL) Wishing you a day filled with happiness, my friend!

I know what you mean about those weekly challenges, Leslie. Most weeks are too short! Your butterfly cards are so pretty! I love the look of vellum on your first card and the edge in your bits box worked perfectly for Michele's sketch! I hope you have a relaxing weekend.

Lovely to see you sharing a couple of beautiful cas cards. Both are very pretty. I have the same issue with challenges and so am not very good at entering them. I am glad the stars aligned for you this week. It is such a great take on the sketch too xx

The first card looks as if all those dots had to be there...so yay to coveringup smudges. Your take on Michele's sketch is fabulous. Love the colors you used on both cards.

What is prettier than a butterfly - are the colors of pink and green! I think they are so soft together and no one would know where your little smudges are hiding. Great save! Your second card is so cute with the butterfly flying bye to say Hi! The embossing folder is just perfect on the side! Hope you are having a nice weekend. We are hiding inside from the hot weather.

Gosh I love these both. Simplicity at it's best. Love your colour choices on both and also the woodgrain letters! Great job at covering up the smudge, I believe we all have these one time or another, but one would never know on your card. Beautiful cards Leslie! TFS.
Super hot here until next weekend already feeling like 91 but it suppose to reach 115 this afternoon. Take care!

They are both beautifully done, I didn't even recognize the second was made from the same folder until I read. On the first I love the softness to the butterflies, and no I can't tell any where you had to cover up any marks. The second is so neat how you used a portion of it and like the softness the snowfall embossing gives to it. Beautiful!
Hope you get more time in your room this week, I know mine has been quite busy.

I love both of them - those butterflies are so soft and sweet! And such a fun and creative use of the sketch - I definitely see the sketch in that curvy butterfly. Thank you for playing along with us at Freshly Made Sketches.
