Wild for Penny Black

I have something a little different today from a recent Penny Black release.  It's one of their mini-sets called Go Wild.  Well, I went wild... couldn't resist this one and some others.  I hope I can get to all this coloring before the newness wears off!

I've done this one with Copics and placed it on a blended-ink background.  I tried I-don't-know-how-many different colors for the card base, many of which looked quite good, but they didn't sing to me.  Then I remembered this card base I'd covered with patterned paper and left in a drawer.  It gave the card a look that felt right to me.  I'm seeing a unique character planter in a sun room or garden room... wishful thinking.  I'd like to have the garden room AND the planter!

I seriously love this stamp.  The background is a very soft blend of SU inks.  From the top down:  Old Olive, Bashful Blue, Barely Banana.  The transition is subtle.  If memory serves correctly, I believe I blended over the whole thing with Barely Banana.  Final step was a light splattering of water droplets.

About that ink blending... I have another new favorite thing:  Beauty Kate makeup brushes.  Aren't they beautiful?

They're just the ticket when you want a beautifully blended, soft and subtle background.  However, you can get more intense color by applying more ink. I've only played with them a little bit, but so far I like them best with regular inks as opposed to oxide inks.  I did make an oxide ink background which turned out very nice, but can do the same with the Mini Ink Blending Tool.  I treat these gently, rinse with cold water.  We'll see how long they hold up.  More good reviews than bad and the price is right.

Well, that's all for today.  I'll see you again soon!

Stamps:  Penny Black Go Wild  Paper:  140 lb hot pressed watercolor, Neenah white card base covered with patterned paper  Ink:  Memento Tuxedo Black, Old Olive, Bashful Blue, Barely Banana  Coloring:  Copics  Dies:  Taylored Expressions Stitched Rectangle Stacklets, Memory Box Stitched Circle Layers

I love the ink blended background and am very curious about the new tools you are using. I will have to check these out! The image is adorable, such a sweet planter and your coloring is perfect. I never learned to play well with copics so I'm always happy to see someone who does! Hope you have a great weekend!

Cute and yes it would make for a unique planter. Wouldn't of thought of those brushes with card making, but very cool!

cute card. Not sure about the makeup brushes. I gather they're sponge. Will expect it to come apart from the base... Looking forward to hearing more after you've used them for a while. Have a great day

Love those brushes, too, and their magic looks great on your darling roaring creation, Leslie. I especially like the way the stitching from the rectangle goes over your white circular layer. Beautiful card! hugs, de

Love your card design using a background from your stash, Leslie. Beautifully colored image too.
Trina gave all of us at our 2019 Retreat a set of blending brushes. I loved how they worked with Distress Oxides. They look like yours except they have black handles instead of Gold:-) You will see how we used them on our Retreat 2019 blog hop yesterday:-)

Hugs...

that stamp is just too cute, love the whimsical feel to it, like using the stitching dies with the pattern on the lion. pretty papers to go with it and your blending is so pretty. I just bought a set off Amazon too, haven't given them a try yet, but hopefully I can get the results you have. Love the design with the circle at the bottom and cutting off the base

Leslie, I can see how you HAD TO BUY this guy, he's so cute and quirky. I'm sure I've seen him in my mothers kitchen with a plant in it :)

What a pretty background for your fun planter! I have some brushes too and I really love them. I'm not good at blending but with those and Tim Holtz glass mat, I can do much better.

Oh yes, I am on the same page! This would be a fetching planter in what we call a Carolina room. Love the look you've given it with the pretty blended background and lively patterned paper. I just got a similar style set of make up brushes and they do make blending easy! I love the blue dots grounding that lion - they're just the perfect touch!
I just had a bit of the "wild" happen in my back yard. A herd of 5 or 6 deer ran off when I let the dog out into my fenced yard.Laying there next to the fence was a tiny fawn - looking frightened and brand new! My Josie thought it was a new friend - and the mother has now come back to rescue her baby.

Oh my Love this! Your whole card is perfect, from the designer paper, to the sponged background to your lovely coloured lion! Fabulous card Leslie! Love the whimsical image and the 'go wild'sentiment - fun!
I have a set of these brushes too (different brand) but love how they blend. I get better results than anything else I have used. Sorry for the late post, getting a bit behind. Hope your having a wonderful day!

I smiled big time when I saw this card!! I love how you have created it always with the eye for detail!! I made a Penny Black purchase a few weeks ago and I purchased the set of these planters called 'be happy' and a few other new release PB stamps. A few months back I broke down and purchased the 'life changing brushes' not being aware of the make up ones, but I have to say I LOVE them!! Have a great day/week...bet you are on a campercation!!

Adorable card Leslie! Love that fun planter. It would be fantastic to have one ... and a garden room to put it in! :) Love the soft blending of your background. Just received a similar set as a gift and find them so easy to blend and very comfortable to hold. Your border paper is perfect for this card! It was patiently waiting in your drawer for the perfect card ... and now it's happy. xx
