Spring Wreath in the Fall

Hello!  I have a sweet and simple card today for Friday's flowers.  Simple as it is, I have five photos to explain it so I'll try to use fewer words.

First, the card...  I used my most recently purchased digital set --  "Feathered Friends" from Sparkle N Sprinkle.  I saw it debuted and had to have it.  Two cards on Diane's blog sold it to me -- here and here.  Diane used the rubber stamp set, but the nice thing about Sparkle N Sprinkle is that all their new releases are available in digi format, as well.  You know I love my digis.

The leafy border along the bottom of the card is from one of my new Mintay pads -- Springtime.  Uh, oh... while I was at Frantic Stamper making the link I saw more Mintay for pre-order, and one of them is Christmas!  Yes, I ordered three more pads.  Some things can't be resisted.

The wood grain is from a whole other line of paper -- Ms. Sparkle & Co -- found at Joann Fabrics.  The boards are rather wide, but I learned a trick from Pam Sparks here.  Pam drew extra lines on her wood grain paper so the planks wouldn't be so wide.  Below you can see the before and after of my paper.  I used the narrow tip of a Tombow marker which was the perfect width and color match.

The next trick is one I've mentioned many times before.   I settled the ribbon knot into a punched hole with a little Aleene's Tacky Glue to help keep it in place.  In the photo below you can see the knot on the underside of the popped up panel.  This only works when the panel is popped up.  If that knot was on the front surface it would be a pronounced bump that could cause damage to the card during machine handling at the Post Office.  If you want to use pretty ribbon bows, but don't want to mail in a bubble envelope or box, this is a slick trick.

A little closer...   The sheer ribbon lets the image show through, and the lighter shade of pink does not compete with the flower color (at least that's my thought process).  Memory Box Cross Stitched Frame Borders.

Super easy coloring with the Copics pictured below.  The grays and Colorless Blender were for the smudgy outer shading.

Many thanks to all the crafters who inspire me with great ideas and not-to-be-resisted products (even though I'm trying to minimize shopping).  Hey, if I use it... it's worth it.  I'm becoming wiser about my purchases.

Well, that's it, friends!  Have a wonderful weekend doing whatever makes you happy!

This is gorgeous! Love the idea of drawing extra lines on boards! I have some of that same paper and now I'm trying that next time! And I love the idea about the bow too! You always inspire me and give me new ideas! Have a fabulous weekend! It's pouring rain here so that really limits what you can do.

Gorgeous card and lovely design, the shear ribbon was almost made for the pretty image letting it peek through. A wonderful idea for the wood panel paper and the ribbon know too, I sure hope this old brain can store and remember those tricks!! More Mintay, yikes how did I miss that...thanks for the mention, too, I am always happy to 'enable'!!

Oh my Leslie, this is beautiful! I love the simplicity of this, so pretty, so soft and so divine! I love that you used the wood grain paper, ( I have a hard time using mine I just want to hoard it!), and that bit of leaf paper on the bottom, so pretty. The ribbon is so soft, it just adds that bit of extra to your card without distracting from the focal point - your image. Great tidbit on the ribbon knot. Thanks for the link, I think I need this digi set. Yes, I too have purchased the new Mintay paper packs, love the Christmas one. Thanks for the inspiration today. Now I just want to go colour, and I can because I'm off today. Enjoy your day!

I am loving wreaths right now myself and probably have purchased more than I will need. thanks for sharing the knot picture and the tip of making the planks smaller, I either missed that one or forgot, most likely the latter :( Your coloring is so sweet and love the touch the sheer ribbon gives to it!

Leslie, Can’t tell you how much I adore your card in these soft pinks and bright greens...perfect with your paper and also the ribbon trick...I am going to try that for sure! Too much ribbon not to use it and it adds so much to cards! Thanks so much for the tips and I visited that paper and the Christmas florals were already sold out!! Enjoy your weekend!

Wow! This is so elegant with its simplicity. I love the soft touch of gray outlining the image. It really makes it stand out and thanks for the tip on the wood planks and how to make them look smaller. You are a wealth of great ideas!

Beautiful card, Leslie, and thank you for both very useful tips! I remember you did the hole for the ribbon knot before, but then naturally the tip flew out like a gnat, so hearing it again might make it stick this time! One can hope!! Have a great weekend! Hugs, Darnell

Such an elegant and pretty wreath card, Leslie! I can tell your love for making cards by looking at all the attention to detail - the very light shadows around the leaves, the leafy border, the adjustment of the width of planks, the mail-friendly ribbon knot, the choice for the ribbon... I feel like having a delicious and satisfying meal after reading your blog and looking at the great photos! Thank you! Hideko xx

Beautiful card my friend and what an amazing design, love the tip for the ribbon, great idea!!
I have a really hard time with double sided pattern papers, I don't own any because it's so hard for me to choose which side I should put under, LOL!!
Thank you for the inspiration and the tips, my friend.
Sending hugs and love.
