Thanksgiving Rescue

Hi there!  I decided to make a Thanksgiving card with a not-yet-used stamp which I thought was so cute and would be fun to color.  Sure enough, it was fun!  However, something about the stamp got to bothering me as I was coloring... I don't know why I didn't think about it before:  The turkey is alive and plucked and laying in a roasting pan!

I know it's all for fun, but at that point I couldn't unsee it.  With the "grateful for you" sentiment in a speech bubble I hoped to convey the impression that the dog had rescued the turkey from... well... you know.  Now they're running off to enjoy the pie together.  Whatever.

I watercolored with some paints that came free in a kit, plus some Stampin' Up inks, and a Tombow marker or two.  Played with designer paper and an older embossing folder, added white splatters and a twine bow.

I'm sorry to be rushing off, but that's how my week has been.  Our son came to visit over the weekend, and I'll be out of town for a few days this week.  It's been busy, but fun.  Pictured below is Saturday's outdoor excursion with Sophie and Ridley:

We were in the dunes again.  There's so much room to run and explore.  My beautiful children.  I'll miss snuggling and loving on them for the next few days as they're staying home with Rich (😔).

I'll catch up with you later.  Till then... have a wonderful week!

Stamps:  Purple Onion Designs Thanksgiving is here, Impression Obsession Grateful for You  Paper:  Arches 140 lb cold press watercolor, Neenah Classic Crest Super Smooth Solar White, DCWV Fall Forest designer paper  Ink:  Ranger Archival Jet Black, various other  Coloring:  Watercolor  Other:  SU embossing folder (name forgotten), Impression Obsession Small Leaf Set, Cottage Cutz speech bubble from Telephone set, Scotch brand foam mounting tape to pop up sentiment

You gave me a good laugh this morning Leslie, as I read your interpretation of the story unfolding on your card. I prefer to think like you, that the dog is rescuing the poor, bare turkey. I do hope that pie makes things all good again! Anyhoo, your card is darling. You did a fantastic job coloring that somewhat disturbing image. ;0) Nice texture and sweet fall colors. Thanks for the morning chuckle. Have fun on your trip!

Cute card. I guess someone had weird humour when they created the stamp. Dogs look good. Have a safe and happy thanksgiving.

Hah, I can see your dilemma with the stamp, all in how we look at things, but your theory of the escape route is perfect, very cute and fun card and a fabulous design as always! Have a great time on your days away!!

What a beautifully designed, sweetly colored, fun creation, Leslie! The coloring and the shading around the edges really feel like Thanksgiving time. I liked your story. I did think automatically that the dog had rescued the turkey with a delicious pie, though Your storytelling is much better than what went through my head. The fur children look amazing and happy, as always. How DO you keep them so well groomed?I hope your visit out of town is an enjoyable one. Safe travels. xx de

I hope the dog is rescuing that poor naked turkey! I'm loving the patterned paper leaves and strip at the bottom! You do have a way with watercoloring and using patterned paper so well, my friend!

You are so funny! I see it just the way you described, and eating that pie together will be fun for these two. The card is adorable, I love the bits of gingham and the twine. Hope you have a wonderful time on your trip!

I see what you mean about the turkey and I think you succeeded in your mission. I have had a busy few weeks that has meant I have been a bit absent in blogland. It has taken me a week to catch up with everything, so I know how it goes. I hope you enjoy your trip. xx PS I did enjoy reading about your art journalling. It is so nice to find a new direction for your creativity

You make a good point here and as I look at the picture, I just hope the dog is not running off to put that turkey in an oven that would be another dreadful view of this image, anyway. I prefer the rescue of the turkey and they’re all running off to enjoy that pie. Enjoy your little vacation. We’ll see you soon in craftland!

I had to laugh at the image, yes I agree the turkey looks happy and the dog looks like he is on a mission to get out of their quickly, not sure about the apron, LOL! Love how you colored it and the cute leaves you added for embellishing, great touch with the splatters too!
