Humming By

Hello, again!  It's time to wrap up the week on the stamping blog.  I've made so many cards I don't know if I'll have time to post them all before Christmas, but maybe if I double up whenever possible.  Today, however, it's just one card -- Power Poppy Trumpet Vine Visitor digital stamp, sentiment included.  Actually, there are 5 images in this set.

It's not brand new in the shop, but it's one of many I printed a while back and have been gradually coloring.  An image like this is timeless, thank goodness.  This one was printed on Fabriano Artistico Extra White 140 lb hot press paper and watercolored with Tombow markers.  I tried to keep the coloring loose and not worry overmuch about the detail.  There are smudges and other imperfections, but that's one thing I like about watercolor -- it's very accepting and forgiving.  Just leave some highlights and it's bound to look okay.

The frame was watercolored, too, with multiple inks.  The card base, which is covered with some old designer paper, was pulled from my card parts drawer.  Hooray for using another piece from that drawer!  Honestly, I tried many different colors for the card base, and this one just seemed to work best.  You had to have been there.

By the way, my scale says this card with lining and envelope and protective cover sheet still comes in under one ounce.  Hooray again!

Thanks so much for spending part of your week with me.  Wishing you all happy days till we meet again!

  1. This is lovely! I have hummers coming to a feeder. Right now they are getting frantic getting ready to migrate. They usually leave here mid to late September. I will truly miss them!

  3. Pretty~Pretty~Pretty! Looks like you nailed the color of the trumpet vine and the pretty hummer. Yes I agree the paper works perfectly with it! Growing up I remember we had a trumpet vine and if I recall it was very 'anty' lol, we were always intrigued by it!!

  12. Oh wow that is just absolutely stunning, love your coloring all around but I do really love the bird and how you colored him. I have been enjoying our hummingbirds coming to the feeder this year, they are keeping me busy keeping the feeder full! I like how you layered on the different papers and the part circle that the sentiment is on, love the idea!

  15. Be still my humming heart! Of course I glanced at the entire card, but then I looked at the background paper, and that amazing frame - I want to do that, too! What a great idea of inking the frame with multiple watercolors. And then the masterpiece itself - I can hear it humming all the way in Florida! Unfortunately, I don't have big blooms like these, but the hummers truly do love the little flowers I do have, especially in the dead-heat of summer. We have hummingbird moths, also. At first, I honestly thought they were tee-tiny hummers. But they are insects, making the same sound as hummers, and looking exactly like them, but with less color. The petals on your flowers are lovely, Leslie, and the tint of red in the hummers tail feathers, and in the back wing, really reveal the details in Marcella's beautiful image! I admire your "brag" about all the cards you've been making. I'm still plugging along on my die reorganization. Probably I'm about 3/4 of the way thru, so there is light at the end of the tunnel! I do so enjoy visiting your blog, my dear friend. Though I cannot leave a comment on each one, I do feel lifted and inspired by your artistry. xx

  21. Leslie, what a beautiful image! You must have a wonderful printer to handle such heavy watercolor paper! You've captured her feathers so beautifully!
I just love these little hummers - sadly we'll be saying goodbye to those that visit our feeders very soon, and our butterflies are nearly all bloomed, too.
Have a beautiful day, and thank you again for visiting!
