These cards are clean and simple, both in design and in the time it took to make them. I always hope my friend won't mind a few quick cards in her order to go along with the more artsy, time consuming cards. She never complains. I actually like them a lot.
I looked back to a card I made years ago. Saved the picture in my sketch book because it just works for me. A little texture, a little color, an additional design element for interest. Can you believe I used eyelets? I know! I always liked eyelets because they gave me hardware with virtually no lumps or bumps, and then they became old school. But, really, do they look so awful? I'm thinking I should use them more. I have a drawer full and, believe me, a drawer full of eyelets is a lot of eyelets.
The ribbon is a plus, as well. How many colors of this 1/4" gingham ribbon do I have? I lost count, but these cards represent four of them, with matching eyelets. Silver eyelets on the first card because I didn't have a matching blue.
Just look at all this old stuff! Old SU colors, old eyelets, old stamps, old Swiss Dot embossing folder. The flower stamp is a Great Impressions wood block stamp with no name or date on it, but it was one of my earliest stamps. I've used it many times as it's so cute and easy to color. It doesn't look old, does it? The sentiment is an early JustRite, cut with a JustRite custom die. It feels good to use some of the things I've been saving all these years. My heart does love the oldies.

Fabulous set of cards and I love the stamp you have used, it makes a great card!! Fun to see the eyelets used too and of course the gingham has my heart, it has always been a favorite of mine. What old 'stuff' in my stash (you mean besides me, lol)...there probably isn't enough room here to write it all down..hah! But a couple that come to mind are stickers and rub-ons from my scrap booking days!! Did you know that Mintay has new paper pads out...of course I had to order some.... sigh!!!

ReplyDeleteThe first thing that struck me....these cards are "pristine"...that's a good description! So clean and "simple" but deliciously beautiful. (I think I finally got rid of all my eyelets, but maybe I should look! I don't have any 1/4" ribbon though; my go-to is grosgrain because it isn't slippery for my not-so-nimble fingers. These are wonderful cards, Leslie.

ReplyDeleteThese are BEAUTIFUL Leslie! What a fabulous CAS design and OMG eyelets! I too have a box full of eyelets (TWO eyelet set tools) ... tons of brads too! And, like Diane, I have lots and lots of supplies from my scrapbooking days (stickers, rub-ons and such). I also have an entire wall of pegboard filled with 'stuff' from the past as a reminder to USE IT from time to time!

I love the eyelets detail and the way you threaded the Gingham ribbon through the holes, the delicate flowers look so beautiful framed with color coordinated papers and with the texture of the dotted embossed panel.

I just love these cards and I'm sure your friend will as well! I love eyelets too and how you threaded the ribbon through them! Gingham is in now I hear. I purchased the Gingham Gala paper from SU. I love it as well as polkadots - probably from my childhood. It's all my Mom used to wear on me. I think the Swiss Dot folder is perfect for these cards. I always fall back on that folder. ReplyDeleteWOW these are stunning and that stamp could easily pass for a new one-love the eyelets and gingham robbon threaded through-everyone seems to be reusing their old stash this year--we have these trends and techniques and then they get completely forgotten about --we should start a new trend and revisit the old ones-new crafters wouldn't have heard of many of them tbh.

ReplyDeleteI love the card with the silver eyelets. For some reason the other card is not showing up for me. I used to have tons of eyelets but quit using them and ended up sending them to another cardmaking friend who would use them. I wonder if she still stamps. Haven't seen her in awhile.

I love this set you created, and how you ran the ribbon through the eyelets and the way you embossed the swiss dots just through the middle leaving the top and bottom clear - nice effect. Speaking of eyelets, yes I have tons of those, brads and lots of gingham ribbon. I really need to pull out some of my 'old stuff' and start to use it again. I have a few in my stash, but would have to think where I put the setter....I've given most of my ribbon to 5yo Avie; she just can't get enough! That stamp is wonderful, and I'd keep it forever if I had one! It's simple and lovely. What a great set of cards. And if you keep going like this, you'll soon run out of supplies! ; ) Bev

ReplyDeleteThere's old and then there's timeless and I think the products you've used here fall into the timeless category, Leslie! Your clean and crisp cards are my faves so I love them all and even then, they have lots of personality with the swiss dots and the panel and the woven gingham ribbon through eyelets! (Not the same as my uber CAS, lol!) As far as what do I have ... ALL of it! I've tried to bring back mulberry paper, and brads, and I don't know what all. Still, even if things don't come back, I'm inspired by the fact that you are reloving your schtuff!! Hugs, Darnell
ReplyDeleteYour post came at perfect timing, I love what you have done here, and I so think we need to break out our old gems and use them. I have been cleaning my room and I started by going through my old magazines, yep from 2006 and up, I loved the different ways I have been seeing the eyelets used and was just thinking I need to get out my old goodies and use them again. Your card is so pretty and clean, love the way you used your ribbon with the eyelets and I am sure she is going to be thrilled with this gem!!

ReplyDeleteLeslie...when I am tempted to rid my craft space of an old item...I ask myself...what would Leslie do?? It does feel so good to make something pretty with what you have!! I did get rid of my eyelets because for me they were hard to use ...a hammer in my hand is never a good thing. And I love these cards...very classy...pretty...lots of white space...what’s not to love? That’s a blessed day!
