New From Power Poppy: My Favorite Pair

Marcella's been drawing again!  She's released the second in her digital series of vintage cafe' au lait bowl bouquets and is it ever beautiful!  She calls it "My Favorite Pair".

Marcella's notes:

"A perfectly piled jumble of ripe pears, African violets, and meandering ribbon comprise the second in my series of vintage café au lait bowl bouquets. Think of the fun you can have with this one!  As we burrow into our winter wonderlands, the freshness of houseplants in windowsills is sometimes the only green to be seen!  Bursting forth with blossoms in purples and pinks, blues, reds, and whites — the coloring options are endless.  This illustration comes with an alternate version with a hand lettered sentiment, and a no-line version of each complete drawing.  Pick up Snowdrops and Tea Roses to complete the set, and look for another café au lait bouquet coming in February."

I printed the no-line, no-sentiment version on X-Press It Blending Card and colored with Copics.  I needed this to be a birthday card so I stamped a sentiment on the tag, somewhat wonky, but it was the only way it would fit.  I don't think the birthday girl will mind.

By printing slightly smaller than I normally do for digital stamps I was allowed room for playing with papers.  In fact, I started with the ribbon (must use it or lose it), then chose the papers, constructed the layout and, finally, colored to match.  This crafting progression always saves time in the end and makes it easier to choose image colors.  Decisions, decisions!

I added rhinestones, too.  All these things in my stamp room... I've already purged enough, so the remaining supplies must be used.  Vintage supplies for a vintage bowl.  Gosh, it's a pretty stamp!

  3. Squeel! What a delightful, gorgeous card to see this morning! Oh my goodness Leslie, this is coloured beautifully, very vintage looking, love the papers and ribbon too. Your colouring is so spot on, the shading, your colour palette, everything is beautiful! You are the 'queen' of colouring no matter what the medium. I've never tried no-line colouring, you make it look so easy, must give it a try. I"m so glad you posted this today, as seeing the sneek peak for this digi over a week ago I was dying to see it. Must go buy it. You have inspired me today as always. (Need to go shovel snow before stamping, we got around 12" of snow yesterday, and it's still snowing and lots of drifting. We shoveled twice yesterday, took us over an hour both times, ugh!!! -4F) Have a happy day Leslie!

  7. Brilliant and absolutely gorgeous! Love your choice of papers & design! Not to mention your perfect coloring! How smart of you to choose papers first then color vs the other way around which I have a habit of doing! Ugh ... will remember that little tip! Love all the stitching ... perfect for this beautiful image! Thanks for amazing inspiration!

  8. Oh my, Leslie, this is exquisite! I absolutely love everything about it and really love the idea of selecting the designer paper before coloring (or finish coloring). Always learning from you, my friend. The layout is fabulous, and I love the stitching and the vintage ribbon and (of course) wonderful rhinestone. Have a bunch of those myself and simply find it so hard to use/place them. Thanks for always inspiring us all, and I so love your no-line coloring -- something I need to work on. Beautifully done, and I absolutely am enthralled with it. Hugs and love!

  18. How pretty, Leslie! Your violets are beautifully highlighted, making them appear just as delicate as they would be in real life! And that shine in your ribbon is a marvel! I am just so incredulously amazed when viewing your coloring. You must have a very secure, light touch. And of course your trademark stitching could not be more lovely with your choice of ribbons! It's a lovely creation! I'm a Leslie fan - her artwork is going to be even more valuable one day, so I save my treasures (appreciative giggles here). It was 80 here yesterday. We will be below freezing in the morning. Sigh - only a few periwinkles are steadfastly blooming for the few pollinators that wake up on the warm days. I'm getting too "old" to cover my plants effectively. hugs, de

  34. When it comes to coloring an image like this you're a master! I love to linger over the details (the ribbon, the fabulous stitching, the coordinating designer papers). All of these things don't just happen, it takes experience and an eye to bring it together naturally - you've got the touch, Leslie, always have in my opinion. What a beautiful card!
