Spring Flowers in Fall

Hello again!  You'd think I'd forgotten which season we're in with these spring flowers, but, really, it's all about moving along quickly with the cards I need to get in the mail and tidying up my room in the process.  You see, I'd cut this swirly die in the card base some time ago (unbranded, a gift from a friend), but hadn't made it into a card yet.  It's been on my stamp table, so pretty and so neglected, sigh...  Now it's paired up with Power Poppy's Abundant Petals stamp set, ready for the mail and for Flowerful Friday.

The flowers are colored with Copics on Neenah 110 lb white, then closely cut with scissors.  I didn't worry about flower authenticity and just made it up as I went along.  However, I may not be far off.  I have a pot full of those little yellow flowers with their green centers, and I do believe I've seen a similar peony.

About the card base:  It's a pale plum Bazzill textured card stock which I swiped with white ink.  It brings out the texture of the card stock and the pattern of the die cut.  I slipped a panel of wood grain paper under the die cut and arranged the flowers over top.

The paper, by the way, is from yet another of my new Mintay pads.  This one is called Lovely Day.

Little by little I'm catching up after our last trip away.  It's a good feeling.  Without delay I need to start a card for my 1 yr old neighbor's birthday, so if it turns out halfway decent I'll pop in with that on Monday.  See you soon!

  2. This makes me think that tidying up my desk might be a great idea... if it can produce a beauty like this!
ps: Because it's Spring on the other side of the world where my ♥ is... I think it's ok to make floral cards all year round! 😍

  4. I can take flowers ANY time of the year and this one is gorgeous! I kept studying it and studying it to learn from your shading! Always the most beautiful coloring and designs! We won't be going to the Lake House (or north as we like to call it) as much as we were, gee I don't like seeing summer end even those I love Fall, but is here and gone in a flash it seems, and we have frost predicted around 2nd week of October. Wondering if your Christmas Mintay has arrived, mine is on it's way, I had to cancel another item on the pre-order to get it to ship now, I just couldn't wait any longer, that Fran from Frantic Stamper sure is a VERY nice person!!

  5. It's always a treat when you post a card with flowers! You are the undisputed Queen of flowers,as far as I'm concerned! NOBODY colors them the way you do! They always look more like photographs than colored images! What a great way to start the day!

  11. So gorgeous in every way and the flowers and swirl die look fabulous against the wood background. I was clearing up some and also found some usable items for some holiday cards I am making. That helps a lot to get something in the works in a hurry.

  18. This is so gorgeous! I love that swirly die cut and love the colors that you used for the peony. We had peony bushes at my house where I grew up, lovely big blooms, but none this color. That would have been awesome.

  19. Peonies are never out of season for me! I have one that is very similar to this one. And I believe I know those little flowers, too. I'm not happy when summer ends, but I planted 10 peonies in a new "peony garden" last week. 6 of them are new to me; the other 4 are ones I transplanted from other areas around my house where they weren't doing well. Now there will be sunshine all peony season, short as it is, and I'm thrilled. The die cut that you've used to frame the flowers is a beautiful choice for your beautiful coloring.

  20. As you can see, I'm working backwards in my commenting, but now I can say you've saved the BEST for last!! I love the partially cut swirls cut from the pale textured paper. And then the wood grain, oh my gosh, what a perfect backdrop for the gorgeous flowers. I love the touch of yellow with the pink in your gorgeous coloring.
I know it must feel good to catch up. Enjoy!
I'm a bit behind too, Leslie - you'll be sharing more from me soon.
