Double D 2nd Birthday/Anniversary Celebration!

Call it a birthday, call it an anniversary, the Double D Challenge is two years old this month and we feel like celebrating!

To kick off the celebration we're asking for anything birthday or anniversary-themed using the inspiration board as a guide.
Visit the Double D Blog to see prizes.

I'm offering a prize today, too.  PLAY THE CHALLENGE TO WIN.  See the end of this post.

Many of my Double D teamies are offering prizes today, so be sure and visit everyone to see their stipulations.

All our participants have made this a very successful and fun challenge for us.  Of course, Diane and Darlene, the Double D originators/administrators, deserve tons of credit and thanks and love.  After all, they're the ones who provide us with fabulous inspiration boards such as this:

Cute stuff there!  I especially love the birthday cake and I had a whole card made up with a starry cupcake and striped candles, all in colors matching the cake in the inspiration board... and then I made a hideous card with it.  Seriously.  Hideous.  I was so disappointed I didn't want to start all over with the cupcake so I went in an entirely different direction.

I was happy to have finally gotten the kick in the pants I needed to color this very detailed and, oh, so pretty butterfly from my Penny Black "Touch of Whimsy" set.

I stamped in Memento Tuxedo Black on X-Press It Blending Card and colored with Copics.  Stamped several smaller images from the set, as well, but didn't want it to look too busy so I used them sparingly and left a lot of white.

Finished with ribbon and a Tutti Designs Butterfly Strip.  The Butterfly Strip was cut in white and colored with a B02 Copic marker.

READY FOR A PRIZE NOW?

Since it's a birthday party, I have a cute little birthday mini-stamp set and a perky pad of paper which I thought coordinated nicely with it.

I'm sharing the love with our Double D challenge participants.  At the end of our current birthday/anniversary challenge I'll let Random.org select a winner from among everyone who plays along.

I hope you can join us.  Have fun!

Also sharing at The House that Stamps Built "Things with Wings" challenge.  Thank you!

  13. Aw, Leslie, I bet any one of us would like to win your "hideous" card! It's probably beautiful in our eyes. Just like this one is! I am a huge lover of anything with butterflies, so all the colorful details ( and HOT pink!) make this a winner for sure. Thanks for the chance to win the goodies, too.

And I'm so ready for cards with lots of beautiful, Spring colors!! Especially now, that we are in a deep freeze up here in Crown Point, IN.

  15. I can't imagine anything you've done as being "seriously hideous". When this card popped up in my email I gasped! WOW! Do I love this, Leslie! You really went for it and I'm lovin' it! It pops off the page with happy! And the beautiful coloring is just we all need right now. I wanted to go upstairs to work today, but... if you can believe it - we are getting snow and ice in the low country today and tonight. The weather is so dangerous here. Southern folks don't know how to drive in this stuff. Spending the day staying warm and dry.

  16. I was so happy to see your card today - made me foget about the frigid temps we are having now. It made me think of spring and the wonderful colors! I love your coloring. It's such a happy card! I find it hard to believe that you made a hideous card, but glad for the butterfly!

  18. Happy birthday to Double D!! Your card as always is absolutely gorgeous. Love the rich colors and the beautiful butterfly image. You know how I am about butterflies. Love that butterfly die also. Sure to bring a smile to someone's face. I can't believe that you would make a hideous card, but we're always our own worst critics.

  19. Your butterfly is gorgeous. Lucky is the person who receives this card! Have a wonderful year, Leslie.

  20. I agree you could not make a hideous card, but I also know that it was hideous to you. Been there done that. It is usually when I know exactly what I want but the design does not cooperate. I do better when I let the design do its own thing. sometimes I hold my hideous ones from the bin to see if I feel differently about it later.... I usually don't. You new card is so much fun. I love how easily you combine stamping and dies to create such beautiful cards.

  21. Sorry your first card didn't come out the way you wanted it but I can't hardly believe you can make a bad card!!
I love the fun stamp and you did an excellent job with coloring it in and like the little stamping all around it too! Sweet butterfly border die too, Lovely design!

  40. Ah, they don't all turn out as we picture them. I've had to pitch some cards, especially after confirming with one of my 'critics' that live in my house. If they say no, then I get rid of the card completely. LOL

Love your re-do, though! Those butterflies are so whimsical. As always, you're a master colorer. Like a master gardener, but with a paper garden!

  45. Wow! It is such a beautiful card. You must display your work, it is worth showing to the world. There is an exhibition in LA venue next month and a lot of people take up the stalls for showing their hand-crafted works. I think you must also do this, in order to increase the sale and popularity.
